To me its a lot of the chit I ate when I was growing up.
Cereal, rice, pork, are the ones that stick out to me.

As a kid when my family was trifling I definitely remember bringing sandwich spread sandwiches for lunch, which for you non-peasants is basically a mayonnaise and relish sandwich

Ham and noodles. We didn't have a lot of money growing up so things like ham and noodles were a staple. You buy cheap ham steaks, cube them, then mix them in with the macaroni noodles and add Parmesan cheese for added flavor or butter.

That and steak that was so hard to chew you weren't hungry anymore by the time you were able to swallow.

Lunches were white bread sandwiches with salami and cheese or Ham and cheese with mayo

soup - fills you up with the broth so you hardly notice the smaller portions of noodles, meat, etc.
grilled cheese - like the cheese sandwiches mentioned above, except heated so it feels "cooked"

basically anything considered a "comfort food" today was yesterday's poverty meal.
