Why is it normalized for young gymnasts/cheerleaders to wear such skimpy clothing?

If you look at the majority of young girls under 18 doing gymnastics(which is alot nowadays, the gymnastic community is rising) you will see the majority of them in very short shorts almost up to the crotch and sports bras. They are basically 80% naked.
I bet the majority of men are secretely turned on by this but wouldnt dare express it as its socially unacceptable.
Its literally unspoken, legal sexualization.

There has been a lot of debate over the increasingly skimpy leotard lines in the sport of Women's Artistic Gymnastics. The Chinese 1992 Olympic team was actually penalized at the Olympics because their leotards were too skimpy at the time, but the lines have since then gotten to be about to the point that theirs were 30 years ago, now. While some are calling for a return to the standards of the late 1960s to some time in the 1970s, there are still plenty who resist such a call, and often for puerile reasons. I've been a part of some of these debates, and the lack of sensibility in so many people who are resistant towards a return to more modesty never ceases to amaze and frustrate me.

It's messed up. Especially the gymnasts. I remember back in the 90's, Dennis Miller did a bit about the Olympics and how if they wanted to improve ratings, they should put a camera in the balance beam. I liked the dude, but wtf? Those girls are like 15.

There is no state in the country where 16 is legal for an adult male. There’s states that have 16 as the age of contest, but that’s different. That means two 16 year olds are allowed to consent to having sex with each other. There’s still a cap on the age gap allowed for <18

16 is the age of consent in my state. This means that any person older than 16 can have sex with a 16 year old(except schoolteachers of those students). Most of the world has similar laws, or even younger. Also, there are exceptions for special ed students as well.

But there are 16 year olds in Brazil that ride dick like a champ. The US would help itself by lowering the overall age to something like 14-15 as it would force people to mature faster.

Here's the issue. 16 year olds have sex, 16 year olds have kids. Do they mature? Nope. State supports them and they receive no stigma over it. So they do it again and again, potentially leaving a trail of single mothers. I agree with your points about age differences but we need to enforce responsibility into sex and people want to shirk responsibility from anything these days - especially teenagers.
