A Review of RRR (2022)

Basically, this movie is extremely badass.
RRR or Rise Roar Revolt is a very dramatized retelling of the story of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Komaram Bheem, two revolutionaries that fought against the British occupation of India. It is about three hours long and is definitely an epic film. It cost $72 million to make and is the most expensive film ever made in India. There are strangely a number of scenes about lifting weights and physical fitness.
Many of the action sequences are physically impossible but very badass in part because of this. There are music sequences but it's not a musical and they are pretty well done. There are chads, honies, good storytelling, and some historical insight into the independence of India. I would say it's a very dramatized film that serves a national agenda, but it doesn't take itself extremely seriously as you know a lot of the action sequences and circumstances defy reality.
There is a lot of cheesiness, there is literally a line in the movie during a dance sequence that says "is our dancing too spicy for you white boys?" lmao. It's cheeky but it's never hateful. The British Empire really did do a lot of evil chit in India, even if it is clearly written with heroes and villains to the story. The big bad guy is the local British governor, but they also manage to make this guy look badass.
All in all, I'd say it was a beautiful and compelling film that is worth watching if you have the time. It's very self-aware about Bollywood tropes and the cinematography/visuals are very good. I would not take it too seriously if you are British and easily offended, but as an American I'd say that leading a successful rebellion against the British Empire is a common thread. There is also a positive message about friendship between Hindus and Muslims.
I give it a rating of about 3.50 out of 3.50
