Really disappointed in games nowadays

Seems like every game is being released with bugs. These games aren't worth the $70 they are charging for them anymore.

LMAO this simple minded perspective. OP is right, games are essentially releasing as glorified betas these days where the developers just shamelessly trickle down content and features that should have been there from day one, and half the time they have the audacity to charge you extra for it as well in the form of paid DLC. Heck half these new release games don't even function properly until they have spent months updating it, look at Cyberpunk 2077 for a good example of that. The fact that they're trying to charge extra for these new games that are released like this is just the icing on the chit-cake.

Forza is one of the only truly high-quality new games I can think of these days where it's just always been great. They can't even put out much in the way of good variety of games anymore either, and live-service games have been the worst thing for the industry. Seems like everyone is just pumping out the same low-risk garbage.

It was $60, but now thanks to companies like EA and Sony, they're trying to charge $70 for these incomplete new release games.

Because these same fanboys keep ordering the same chit. I'm guilty of doing that with COD but honestly there isn't much else out there to play. I pre ordered MW 22 and it's the same thing as Vanguard and MW 19 with major bugs.

Guarantee if they try something different all the fanboys will complain about it. So we're stuck with the same chit year after year.

Games have always had bugs. Problem is that gamers whine about everything. When I was a kid we had the Atari 2600. Which was stick people moving around. Was GOAT back then. Today people have crazy graphics, huge online communities, endless options, and do nothing but whine

Imagine showing today's games to a kid in the 80s, and saying it's junk.

I haven’t gotten enjoyment from playing a video game in years. The last game I bought was GTA V. After years of hype it was good just not great so I ended up being let down and stopped playing after a couple weeks. Then when Read Dead Redemption 2 came out I went to a a friend’s house to play and was bored as fuk. I fully recognized it was a masterpiece of a game but just the act of playing a video game was no longer fulfilling. I think it has something to do with brain development. Children are more drawn to them.

Games got too expensive and complex to make, and all the big devs got bought out by even bigger publishers.

Kids would definitely enjoy the average chit out there far more than we would. The older you get the higher your standards become, unless of course you're a manchild suffering from arrested development.

Experience and knowledge of what's been out there is why so little these days impresses me.

Nah, we have more games released nowadays and most of them are buggy.

The good ones are better produced than any old game but really lack in the gameplay aspect. The only new games that seem fun are some niched non-AAA titles.

AAA titles have become a snoozefest and don't really differ from one another, especially with FPS is the same vibe. Only games like CS stay true to their fun gameplay roots, thus why they never die.

It isn't just your brain, the games are just bland nowadays also. GTA5 just lacks character, has a boring story, bad soundtrack, lacks the atmosphere and the gameplay isn't as fun as the old games.

Being old does have an affect since you are full of burden and your perception of time has changed. When you are a kid in your mind you have all the time in the world and you don't have the responsibilities. Also the older you get the less exciting with each year everything becomes fun since you have experienced it dozens of times.

For the most part you've got to go for indie games and the games that studios like fromsoft make to actually get a solid experience for your money.

Lots of good games if you can find them, theres just also an ungodly amount of absolute junk and many huge studios releasing unfinished junk.

Never buy a game when it comes out crew. I'd rather wait a few months and not only get it for half price but also wait for the bugs to be worked out.

I just had a psychotherapy session with a 15 year old boy tonight and we talked about what I see as a link between depression and game content.

I have an XBox and games seem to be largely negative for well over a decade.

I noticed this a long time ago when playing Fallout and similar games. You are wandering around some situation not worth living in.

There have been many zombie games with the same flavor.

Most of the military games are of course negative.

Something like Mass Effect was fairly positive but that was a long time ago.

There don't seem to be Star Trek like games where you have a positive mission in some positive setting, so I think games are not all that healthy because do they leave you thinking and positive, or the opposite?

Yeah that's definitely a thing. Games used to be a lot more simple and straight forward, they weren't trying to deliver some 2deep4u misery simulator experience most of the time. Now a days there's all this doom and gloom chit like the Dark Souls and The Last of Us games that's really popular. I always felt like most of that chit was just too dark and depressing for me, like it's just not a pleasant thing.

I kind of agree. I've been meaning to downlaod Cyber Punk and the Mass Effect trilogy, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. Yes I know Cyberpunk is full of bugs, but I figure they must have them worked out by now

Good post.

I liked "2deep4u misery simulator" because that really covers what I do not like.

I noticed this years ago when I played Half-Life. It was very depressing, the main character was wimpy, you had like sticks for weapons and you will in some facility where everyone was dead.

I couldn't get through the game.

Meanwhile, a long time ago, Doom came out and that was about some invasion from hell, but there were science fiction weapons, crazy names for things, and it was kind of amusing.

I have almost never played a zombie game but I am not watching rotting bodies walk around where their try to kill me.

I played Dark Souls for like five minutes and quit. I could tell it was a game made to be frustrating and that's not a game, it's punishment.

I have a super stressful job and I not playing depressing stories or games I'm not supposed to be good at.

For real, I have wondered if games are some kind of media tribe conspiracy to depress people.

I played games in the early 90s that were WAY better than what we have. One was the Avatar series on PC. The graphics were simple but they had stories, they were interesting, funny, filled with exploration, and so on. I would think that would be the norm for game designers, not Fallout.
