what a good guitar to have alongside a strat that can do heavier stuff?
so I have a strat becauise i love blues, floyd etc.
but i want to get a guitar that's good for doing drop d or something and having as a riffing guitar, but one that can only sound good

IMO, price per pound, Ibanez RG model (prestige if you can afford it).
Obviously, if price is not an issue, then there are other guitars we would talk about. But Ibanez prestige is reputable at any level of guitar playing.

Go for something versatile. There's a lot of options out there. I'd go more SG vs Les Paul for metal. Then again, you have brands dedicated to metal. I've heard only good things about PRS as well, but they're pricey.
