Is blinker fluid a scam

My wife's blinkers were about half full of fluid. I drilled a 1/8 inch hole in the bottom of each lens to drain the fluid. The car dealership told her it would be $350 to replace the fluid. I wanted to punch the service manager in the nose and tell him he's a crook, but instead I decided to tell everyone in my town about their service. That was 10 years ago. The dealership is going out of business.

Did I do the right thing?
