There was a time when EDM was all the rage here on the misc. People making threads about their festival experiences at Tomorrowland, or Ultra or EDC. Discussion on deep house, best female vocals, top DJ's to keep an eye on, etc. Feels like it started around 2012, peaked in 2014, and withered after 2018.

Has EDM gone the way of disco? Or is it still kicking as we enter 2023? Who are big right now, what are the main acts to follow. If you got youtube vids to post examples from the past year, throw them up.

Depends on where you live and which genre of edm you're into. As a trance n techno guy, **** is popping off in socal and imo the genres are staying strong.

I honestly have a lot of sets id share but if you're not into the specific genre of edm, it'll sound like trash. I personally think dubstep trap hardstyle and mainstage house all sound like chit but completely understand some people are just into that type of music and it sounds amazing to them.

Personal favorites for me at the moment tho are: boris brejcha, bryan kearney, Eric prydz, lane 8, I hate models, nico moreno, 9x9, genix, Billie gillies, charlotte de witte, spencer brown, Tinlicker

Don't listen to the depressed normies that think edm is dead or the golden age is past because they only listen to mainstage sets and think David guetta = edm

In Los angeles, last weekend was dreamstate, one of the best trance fests in the world imo. Always stacked lineups. Bryan kearney and JOC played their tech trance aliases as karney/joint ops centre, alongside playing their main sets

Weekend before that, big industrial techno dj I Hate Models played a club set

Theres a group called 6am events that also throws harder techno events in a random dark warehouse and books really solid techno talent and the events go from 11pm to 6am. Couple of months ago saw 999999999 for the first time

Before that, lane 8 had an LA show then ABGT 500 was here too in october

TLDR edm is in a really good spot, just find what you like. Its out there

Around 2010-2013 it was the lost popular genre. Big difference.

Cause where I am (sydney) There's none

And sydney used to have loads of them

Sheeple just follow trends, and going to edm festivals isn't popular anymore

There will always be a small crowd for it though

Deep & prog house is doing just fine. Anjunadeep knocking it out the park with their releases as always. Don't give 2 sh*ts about that "here comes the drop" EDM garbage.

i could just be older but here's my opinion

gen x and previous were more about concerts. millennials were a bit cause their parents and gen x were. i think the kids growing up with social media are prob less so

right around 2010 WAS prob peak times for that because of the way the generations grew up.

having said that, i haven't been to festivals recently. that's just my guess

Right in the feels. But you answered your own question, it basically died in 2016 after peaking in 2014. Those late millenial producers/djs outgrew it and the ph@ggy zoomers have no talent/creativity, so it died.

Melodic dubstep with female vocals was my favorite genre. Some of the best music ive ever heard. Even the tracks made by uknown tweenagers in their bedrooms was amazing. I'll never forget those days, but they're never coming back.
