This has always been a huge red flag for me.

The importance placed on an animal life over a human life is bizarre and borderline sociopathic.

And in what situation would you ever have to make that choice?

I mean, I'd save my family over a random animal but if it's between my dog and a random stranger, I'm going for my dog first.

There’s plenty of vids on YT interviewing random people and asking them what they would do in the hypothetical scenario in which they could only save their pet or a random person and 9/10 chose their pet.

I have a dog which I love dearly, but if I’m ever in that situation, God forbid, I’m choosing the human 100%.

Just imagine letting a person die because you wanted to save your fuking pet, wtf man.

How can you compute that chit?

There are plenty of humans I'd literally rather feed to dogs.

A human being's life technically isn't any more important than the life of the ant outside your window. We all exist together. We can even argue that a human's life is less valuable to the planet than, say, a bee's life. You can get really deep into this schit the more you think about it.

Thinking we're somehow above other creatures in nature is typical human arrogance that gets us into all kinds of trouble overall.

I think it speaks volumes about the kind of society we’ve created when we put the value of a human life lower than that of a dog.

I rest my case.

I would argue that thinking a human life is a cheap disposable “thing” is the kind of logic that gets us into all kinds of trouble overall.

This is the kind of thread/ question that favors the argument that people need religion to be moral.

And I’m agnostic btw.

They need something similar to it.

Culture orients us with things like family and judgement of others. Elections determine a lot of what we can do. The government mostly deals with punishing crimes, not orienting everyone in the rest of their lives

Why not use a source of cultural order? Is soundcloud rapper wisdom a better way?

Just because our lives don't technically mean much in the grand scheme of things doesn't mean we can't inject our lives with beautiful and fulfilling meaning

Why? You don’t know that person. The same way you can’t comprehend saving your own dog over a random is how most others feel about the opposite.

Fukk y’all. My dog is more important to me and my life than a random stranger.

After what Ive seen the last 3 years I would never save any random human over a random animal.

Before I would only save my pet, but now I would save even a carpenter ant first before a random human.

think it could be argued going for humans is sociopathic too. i at least know there's research saying animal havers are more social than non

brb saving biggest piece of chit you can imagine vs. saving your dog that has always been loyal and awesome to you.

why is the human life automatically more important?

speaking objectively when the human has shown he may even be below detritus and make your life more miserable/ negative. as in not even a "waste" but a "minus"

all animals and people contribute to the eco system. grass gives you the air you breath. human life automatically more important than grass?

My dog, cats, and even cage of small lizardcels/frogcels have done literally 1 trillion times more for me than 99.999999% of people would ever come even close to. So, give me one reason to pick saving the life a random person who may or may not be a decent person over them? Especially given the fact that over half of people are uselss chit bags anyway

not talking about a hypothetical where some crook is against your family and dog.

I mean those hysterically reacting to every experience of animals, they probably also act this way if their car gets a speck of dirt while not noticing at all if any of their bosses, children, peers etc. suffer from their lives.

Having animals isn't a red flag. Talking about them incessantly, posting pics with them on social media certainly is. Every "dog mom" I've ever known is batshyte crazy, and usually untrusting of others. Probably in need of at least a year of therapy.

Our lives mean a lot to those close to us.

A human life is not a single entity, it affects people around it. People itt arguing for the animals are arguing for humans being inherently evil, which is not objectively true. We are a species marked by duality, it speaks more on the person being asked this question that highlights which side they chose to focus on. And no, I do not think humans are inherently good nor bad, we are as good as our environment allows us to be with some genetic predispositions for certain inclinations/ behaviors.
