and learn to stick shift, drive a semi, back a trailer, etc?

you probably already know this but a lot of companies will send you to CDL school for free if you work for them

go for it if you can handle being alone for 90% of the time and driving doesnt stress you out a lot

You don’t have to learn stick in this day and age although it would make you more versatile.

Go ahead and get your learners, can’t hurt. There’s some flash cards on Amazon that will give you all the test material.

I would recommend taking the courses and getting licensed but start out hot shot trucking (dually pickup and flatbed trailer) until you get a feel for things. I own a gravel/trucking business, I don’t do long haul but driving a semi truck is stupid easy, idk why people make it out to be anything otherwise.

Stay away from super ten transmissions and if you drive where roads can get icy avoid automatic transmissions. It’s not such a big deal to get rolling but the big thing to keep in mind is that it takes a very very very long time to stop. If you learn how to drive a semi truck proficiently you’ll always be able to have a decent paying job.

My former tenant was a long haul trucker for a while. Did pretty well. Then he drove locally. That was good too. Eventually he fixed his credit and bought a house.

There is plenty of work if you can handle it. Gotta like driving and not get pissed at traffic, idiots, and *******s.

Its will be a pretty short term job
In 20 years (probably sooner) the majority of trucks will be self driving and the cost to run with a driver/the insurance will kill the industry
So do it but use it to transition into something else
