If you passed on getting the COVID vaccine, you might be a lot more likely to get into a car crash.
Or at least those are the findings of a new study published this month in The American Journal of Medicine. During the summer of 2021, Canadian researchers examined the encrypted government-held records of more than 11 million adults, 16% of whom hadn’t received the COVID vaccine.
They found that the unvaccinated people were 72% more likely to be involved in a severe traffic crash—in which at least one person was transported to the hospital—than those who were vaccinated. That’s similar to the increased risk of car crashes for people with sleep apnea, though only about half that of people who abuse alcohol, researchers found.
The excess risk of car crash posed by unvaccinated drivers “exceeds the safety gains from modern automobile engineering advances and also imposes risks on other road users,” the authors wrote.

First responders may also consider taking precautions to protect themselves from COVID when responding to traffic crashes, the authors added, as it’s more likely that a driver is unvaccinated than vaccinated.
Yeah, these authors are truly enlightened and educated.......

Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

Yeah because if you're an antivaxxer, you're probably an inconsiderate jackass, and inconsiderate jackasses drive like inconsiderate jackasses.
Also, lmao they want to take your ability to drive. HAHAHAHAHA
Even I'll say that is unfair. It would never work.
Don't tell me I'm going to have to hide you under the floorboards Dave. I won't let them take you buddy.

This took all of about 10 seconds to figure out. Men get in significantly more fatal car accidents than women. A lot more men are antivaxxers than women. Mystery solved.

In other news, people who eat lots of fried chicken are twice as likely to be killed by police. All that grease must make people want to attack cops more. There's nothing else that could possibly explain the connection. -Canadian researchers

I've never spent much time break down studies, finding what makes sense and what is nonsense. that is a big complaint with doctors that look into that kind of thing though, spending hours wading through study data trying to figure out how the study is trying to fool people.
a big complaint today is how bad many studies are these days. And the biggest complaint with the press is that most studies report in the press show only the relative risk. But it is the absolute risk that you want to know, most of the time. The relative risk is typically worthless. Reporting relative risk sells drugs though. Absolute risk provides helpful information for readers.
I suppose in this case the relative risk is more important though. In the study I saw who they claim was less likely to be vaccinated. They list that are those living in rural areas, more likely to drink alcohol, are younger in age, and are poor.
That made me wonder though as in the past it was frequently said that the group most likely to not be vaccinated where people highly educated with PhDs. As an example ~
Why Are So Many Anti-Vaxxers in Educated, Affluent Areas?
Studies show that affluent urban areas with high education rates can have large pockets of people against vaccines. Isn't that counterintuitive

Assuming the data isn't a total lie, it would make sense. The more cautious individuals are more likely to get a vaccine the government is telling them will keep them safe. They are also more likely to drive safely/slowly as well. Not getting the vaccine can technically be seen as a "risky behavior" at this point because the majority of people got it. The pattern of risky behavior will extend into driving less safely. If they wanted to run the numbers, I bet they could also find that being unvaccinated means you're more likely to suffer from a gambling addiction as well.
Whether or not the vaccine was actually safe isn't the point here. It was perceived as the safe option, same as masking up. So those who have a tendency to be cautious will gravitate toward those options, even if they were duped.

"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."
