I’m currently transitioning the ranch from ford to ram due to ford going woke but with the supply shortage it’s a long process. If you use these trucks to do heavy hauling and driving off the pavement like they’re meant to do, do not get a GM anything, they don’t hold up even remotely close to as good as ford and ram. Of those two I’d say the ram is slightly more durable but lags slightly in comfort. The new 10 speed tranny in the fords is supposed to be stupid good though.

I just sold my 2002 7.3 w/ 120k miles on it last week...never had a problem with it the entire 20 years I owned it.

I'd wish people would consider this. Unless you are hauling really heavy, you don't need a diesel. The issue with diesels is the new emmissions equipment ruins everything. Any repair on the diesel is going to be significantly more expensive than a gasoline engine.

Older diesels > newer ones for sure
But yeah I meant the gas 7.3
And I hope you got some serious $ for it, that’s super low miles for a 7.3

Need more info, like how long do you intend to keep the truck, what you gonna use it for. In my opinion Ford is the ugliest, but(year dependent) has the best reputation and longevity. Sierra has is the best looking

Do you have any personal experience with the 7.3 gasser? My daily/feeding pickup is an ‘18 f350 6.2 auto. I use reg cab gassers for feed pickups because they are lighter and get around better out in the pasture. While the pickup itself has been a great rig I feel the 6.2 isn’t enough motor for a one ton pickup.

From what I’ve read/heard, it’s supposed to be a huge improvement over the 6.2 however I don’t have direct knowledge as while I would love one I can’t drop the insane money for a new truck lol. Numbers wise they’re pretty on par with the early 2000s diesels though.
My main drive would be I would only really use one to pull and RV and I don’t see us getting into a 40 footer anytime soon
Currently pulling a light (>4500lb) travel trailer behind an 06 GX470 on 35s and while it does fine I don’t wanna drop thousands on gears to make it pull hills easier lol
Because of that I’ve just been daydreaming. I generally sell/trade vehicles every year or so which is a habit I should break.

I hear you, my f350 with the 6.2 will shift into 5th gear at 95 mph empty if you floor it which on my opinion means it’s got two wasted gears because it is geared so high. Right now beggars can’t be choosers when it comes to new pickups due to the shortage but if I had to do it over again I’d order it with gears north of 4.5 to utilize the usable power.

Yes I have a cattle ranch in South Dakota. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else in the world. Some people here chit on me for being a country boy but they only do so out of ignorance. I operate on ~20,000 acres but am currently looking to expand depending on land availability. I live 90 miles from the nearest Walmart just to give you an idea how far away from civilization I am. I’ve done several ama’s over the years on the subject if you want to give the newly fixed (I’ve read) search function here a go. If you bump any of them with questions I’ll respond. A few of them are pretty pic heavy.

That’s absolutely awesome man, grew up wishing I was more country and I was (was raised in San Antonio) and acreage has always been the goal.
Need to get my son (6 month old) throwing hay bales around so he can be a monster like you lol
