Why are patels so cheap?

Just did a side gig for an Indian family. Installed 1000 square of vinyl flooring plus trim and basement pillar covers.

I charged this guy a 1000$ . Took me under 20 hours to do it so little over 50$ an hour.
Most contractors charge 2$ a square. Big companies will charge 3-4 a square.
This is just a little side hustle that I do outside of my regular job.

He wanted quotes on other things. EV charger in the garage. I quoted him 2500$ nope to much
Drywall in the garage 1500$ nope to much
Stair repaint plus spindle replacement 500$ nope to much

Also he wanted me to come back and fix his drop ceiling plus some other piddly things. I said 100$ to come back and fix the drop ceiling (30 min worth of work) no to much why can't you come back and include this in the flooring loooooooooool.

So question is why are Indians so fuken cheap and expect white man to work for free?

He was arguing. I told him we originally agreed to a 1000$ but since I had to buy the material for the columns and make a trip to home depot it was going to be an extra 100$

Those jobs you quoted would have been 3x as much, and you would have been hired.

Was $1500 to drywall a whole garage? That chit would have legit been $5k here for drywall, tape, and mud.

Flooring also runs $4-$6/sqft here, but that also includes baseboards/quarter round.

It's just part of Indian culture though, especially if they are rich Indians. They still have a fooking caste system over there, and feel like the poor are there to serve them. They bring that chitty attitude here. srs.

My ex-father in law sold billboards for a living. Which seems like a funny job except dude was the top sales guy for Lamar Advertising in the southeast US and was loaded. He had all the hotel owners in SC (Patels) as clients.

They would literally drive by their billboards at night to make sure there were no lights out on the billboard, and if a light was out they would call him and scream about getting credited for 12 hours of the monthly billboard lease because a light was out. Thats like $40. So you got in your car to drive to the billboard to see if a light was out for $40 and you own a fukking hotel.

****** always trying to get one over and finesse people. **** annoys the **** out of me. They have an excuse for everything. I know some ****** tenants who trashed the backyard of the place they were renting and they tried to finesse the landlord and blame it on the wind even though the backyard was littered with trash from a week ago. If there were some wind there, the rental property wouldn't smell like a soiled diaper. Even if it was the wind they would clean it up

lol patels are the worst... srs they usually let bills go unpaid until collections is literally banging on their doors then they pay in cash. It's a tradition to see how long they can go before paying their bills. Anytime i give a bid to one and its accepted i make sure i get cash up front.

****** have a finesse/hustle culture where they try to get one over on you no matter the means, legal or illegal. One time i was short like a dollar for the bus in Brampton (Canadian ****** containment zone) and told the ****** I was talking to at the bus stop that i was just going to short change the bus driver since they don't count the change that gets dropped in their collection machine. The ****** said something along the lines of calling me a wise man. This was over like a dollar in bus fare. He probably never paid his proper fare again honestly

And that's not counting the millions of ****** international students who cheat. The number of them who start cheating the moment they get an opportunity is insane

I've noticed that Indians (and Nigerians) have a small percentage of a higher class of people who don't act like that, but most are a lower class of people who act so desperate and poor, like they are almost destitute, that they dont care how annoying and disresectful they are.

In college in the 90's I worked a few retail jobs and always avoided them because I knew they would nag me to give them discounts or free stuff to go with their purchase. They always insulted my intelligence and acted like I was being abusive to them if the retail prices were set.

If one cornered me, I wold wait until they started in with their manipulation tactics, then say "let me go ask my manager" then hide from them, sometimes out in my car, until they left. One time I just left for lunch.

They always smell like curry, too.

I should have told him 1500$ but it is what it is. He tried doing it himself and the moron didn't stagger the joints lol. Also it was used laminate that he got from marketplace, half of it was busted up. One big room in the basement, he didnt have enough of the marketplace stuff so now there is 2 different style floors in there. The garage needs 1.5 walls drywalled. I said 1500$ and told him I would need a 2nd guy with me, hence the hefty price, still seemed high looool

I'm aware of the Asians, but they're at least respectful. When you agree to a deal, they don't then try to squeeze more juice out of you. I've never been legit angry when dealing with other Asians.

Yeah, Indians with lots of money treat everyone who isn't rich like absolute peasants. Like something out of a Hollywood movie. In the US almost all rich people will be cordial with a waiter or someone providing a service for them, but rich Indians are next level treating others as if they're medieval serfs. I'm surprised more don't get blasted in the face. Thankfully the IT guy in the office isn't like that. Their caste system definitely influences behavior.

The guy that I was dealing with wasn't super wealthy by anymeans. 400k house. Average cars.
His kid seemed super privileged though.

Because these ****** aren't blue collar. They have no clue how much these things are or how much work is involved.

It's no different than a ****** quoting you $10k for a website and you're like "what? shouldn't be more than $100!". For an ecommerce site with seo and mobile friendly and fancy graphics and animations and maling list and on azure blah blah blah.

so he doesn't want to do it, most likely he doesn't need it. If he calls around and finds your the cheapest - he'll call you. It's all about how much you are COMPARED to others. If they still say no, they're just not into getting that work done - it's not abouty your price.

I started doing this handyman thing as a side hustle. Most people don't own a hammer let alot know how to use it lol. I'm going to some dudes house tomorrow to install recessed lights. 175$ a light. He wants 5 of them

If I goes well i will try to get my electrical license and do it full scale.
