You just have to run the test and pass?
Cause if military, you want to be well above the minimum before bootcamp, if you can only do the minimum it will be tough.... course this was like "back in my day" because now they are taking in so many fat fuks that cant even make the minimum and stay in boot camp extra long. They will still try to sort you out in groups, you want to be well above minimum and then you have some "reserve" left, then its cake.

The average olympic 400 meter dash bodyweight is around 157 pounds. The absolute heaviest 400 meter runner professionally right now is around 184 and that's just one person.
I ran this 53 second quarter mile back in 2013 at 6'0 tall and 214 pounds. Just for fun. At the track. Just me versus the clock.
Here's the new challenge. I can guarantee that nobody on this entire site has ran a faster 400 meter dash over 210 pounds.
And you're going to have a extremely tough time finding anyone in the world that has done a 400 this fast at that heavy of a body weight. Crossfitters have no clue who they are dealing with here. I would absolutely blow away all crossfitters on the planet if I were still training for that 400.
It all goes by body weight. Simple as that. The heavier you are the harder it is to do. For the people that have no clue about track and field, this is a staggered start. Meaning that I was in lane 2 or 3 when I did this and the finish is behind the start. The finish line is the big white line going across the track after the huge set of white numbers on the track.
So i'm not starting and finishing in the same spot due to that stagger in lane 2 or 3.
A 53 seconds quarter mile is on pace for a 3:32 mile. Just to give you an indication of how fast this is at this heavy of a bodyweight. Yeah I would never be able to maintain this pace for an entire mile but you get the point here.
The world record holder right now weighs around 142 pounds. The former record holder Michael Johnson was only 168-177 when he competed. This is an event that requires you to stay within the guidlines of a certain bodyweight threshold to compete in it professionally. If you go over that bodyweight then there's no way you can become a professional runner.
Plus on a side note nobody cares what twinks run the 400 in. Do it at 210 pounds or more and tell me how you feel afterward. Even though 214 pounds is still twink level. But you all get the point here.
I'm going to go so far as to say that nobody here over 210 pounds can run anything close to 1:05. Meaning 1 minute and 5 seconds.
I no longer run the 400s ever since switching to linebacker training in Jan 2015

So how are you going to compete with me if i'm beating you in the 400 at 214 pounds by over 7 seconds?
Rich Froning isn't the fittest on earth.
Here's the site that says his best is 1:00.
http://scores2010.crossfit.com/scori...oning-jr,1225/
Even the fittest crossfit athletes on the planet don't run this fast in the 400. Most crossfit athletes are around 200 pounds. So this is on an equal level of them. Just proves that I know exactly what i'm doing in my training. And my 400 meter dash training is the best in the world.
I already posted my 400 meter dash training in another thread. You have to first know what you're doing. If you don't know what you're doing then you're never going to run this fast at this heavy of a body weight.

I guess that's not bad. Plenty of room for improvement though....that's about a 9:30 pace.....a nice steady jog.
One of my 2023 goals is to (re-achieve) a low 7min mile and maintain it throughout the year....I haven't run in almost 5 years, broke my right knee 2x in the last 10years ...... I've run 4 times so far in 2023 and my last mile was an 8:04...should be in the 7's this week.

Running is my favorite form ao exercise.
Have you thought about trail-running? It's pretty hnnnng.
Nature. Fresh air. Solitude.
Have you thought about trail-running? It's pretty hnnnng.
Nature. Fresh air. Solitude.
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

Well done, OP. There is always huge improvement during the first few weeks of running, but then it is so easy for all of that progress to go away if you do not run for a while. I ran this 5km the other day, and I weigh around 97kgs (218lbs), not on a track but on the road. 44 years old.

Honestly, you should be able to do it in under 10 min. But that's still good that you made progress.
