Old Movie Thread

I'm making this thread to shed some light on older that people who haven't gotten into 30's-80's cinema might enjoy. I'll try post movies that are easily available and update the thread once a week or so.

CASH ON DEMAND (1961)
Part Christmas Carol, part heist movie, this tight, tense and claustrophobic 80 minute film stars the great Peter Cushing as a bank manager being held up for money.

On The Beach 1959

American post-apocalyptic science fiction drama film from United Artists staring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire, and Anthony Perkins. Produced and directed by Stanley Kramer it is based on Nevil Shute's 1957 novel "On the Beach" depicting the aftermath of a nuclear war. Unlike in the novel, no one is assigned blame for starting the war, which attributes global annihilation to fear compounded by accident or misjudgment.

The Gunfighter (1950)

When people talk about the great westerns of the 50's The Gunfighter is not mentioned as often as it ought to be. Here, Gregory Peck stars as man trying to cut loose of his gunslinging ways and reunite with his family, but his reputation proves hard to shake.

If you are a Star Wars fan, then watch Dam Busters from 1955. Based on a true story about British RAF taking out a german dam. George Lucas got a lot of scenes from this, some are almost exact scenes and the wording is barely changed.

These movies are mostly dialogue driven, but very rewatchable.

7 Days in May - Military plot to overthrow the president

Fury - Lynch mob tried for lynching innocent man

Key Largo - Alpha mode Humphrey Bogart vs gangsters during a hurricane

Lion in Winter - King of England can't decide which of his annoying kids will succeed him

Sahara - US army tank crew stranded in North Africa during WWII

Paths of Glory - Corrupt generals execute soldiers for cowardice during WW1

M - Fritz Lang movie about trying to find a serial killer

Wings - Silent movie but has some incredible dogfight action scenes

Anything Chaplin, Keaton, or Lloyd
Boston sports crew
Live Free or Die 603 crew
Ex-Howard Stern crew
1974 crew

As far as the craft of filmmaking goes, Terrence Malick in the 70's did it as well as anyone ever has

Watched Crime and Punishment USA 1959 last week.

I think that it was George Hamilton's first movie role. About a young murderer playing a cat and mouse game with a detective (Frank Silvera of High Chapparral fame).

Filmed in Melbourne Australia. At a time when it was the last place to consider filming a Hollywood movie.

I really enjoyed The Mountain (1956) starring Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner. I believe its based on a true story as well. Cool footage of the alps etc. this may be in b&w and technicolor(i seem to remember watching it in b&w but every clip i see is color)
