It works in some countries, EU or Japan have a lot of people who use public transit every day, it just doesn't work as well in the US due to how big the country is. Most EU countries are the size of US states.

People would take public transit if it worked.

Tokyo and new york are decent examples.

It is a viable way to get around. Most places it doesnt work so people only take it if they have to.

Saw a show the other day about Luxembourg making public transit free to everyone. The people still wont take it even for free because it sucks. Doesnt run on time nor does it take them where they need to be when they need to be there.

Basically they cant even pay people to take it. The problem is the system, is designed by people who dont take it. Where it does work, the people designing it do use it so they know what is needed to make it more useful.

Whole eu is same size as continental US

Every independent EU country has better public transport then the combined US
