Texas brahs....❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️❄️

I was on the porch relaxing in the sun sweating on Sunday, it was 80F. It's 29F right now and everything is covered in a layer of ice with more on the way. I don't think I've ever experienced a temperature shift this extreme.

Like August in the Midwest to winter in the Midwest in under 24 hours. I'm about to go out to bring some of my plants in, as it's colder than I anticipated. Will report back.

Many die unfortunately. This is kind of a weird area, as it should be perfect for many tropical plants due to the long and hot summers, and mostly mild winters, but the occasional cold snaps kill off anything more exotic. I took these after the December freeze recently when it got down into the teens (~-9C). It was back in the 70s the following week.

Many of these are hardy, so they'll grow back in the summer, but some palms didn't make it.

Some varieties are much tougher though, like Sabals, here is one after the same freeze. I wish more people planted these down here.

haha yeah. Well there are worse places to be stuck than California. I'm glad I was able to get out of Illinois.

I've sort of lived all over, but I think I'm settling on San Antonio, Texas. My top choices were Arizona and Florida, but my wife has family here, so it was a compromise. I've been trying to move somewhere warm for years. The area I'm in now is actually surprisingly nice. I've been down here a few times, and I didn't even know it existed. It's sort of on the southern edge of Hill Country. I'll try to find some pics to post later.
