I wanted to try this to work because I need sometimes something over my formal shirt and under my winter jacket during winter transit alongside when I get cold in the office.

However, I find two major problems: 1) The lint from jumpers left on my white formal shirt is too much sometimes - is this a purely quality issue? 2) it feels rather uncomfortable around the arms.

Any suggestions very welcome misc. srs

Yeah depending on the material of your dress shirt there will be a lot of lint from abrasion especially if your shirt has texture. The tighter the fit the worse it is. You can buy baggier and bigger jumpers but it won't look as good or fitted.

Uncomfortable on arms because too tight or lengthwise too long?

You could try a vest that isn’t very thick. This isn’t over a dress shirt, but I’m thinking something like this:



Or a simpler/more muted one

hmm this is a good idea but not sure if I actually get cold around the arms
