nothing pretty this time, just cold steel work -- adding a torsion head to a tower and swapping out the guy lines

I used to do this sh't back in the late 90s. Tallest I've stacked was a 1200 footer in Missouri. The hands were a lot more cut throat back then. Had one boss just leave me in Kansas after I punched his foreman in the mouth at the hotel after work.

ps, sorry if these are blown way the heck up.
this is the last piece of the 1200 footer. The gin pole is on the right, and the top most fm antenna is on the left.

here is a piece coming up the on the pill. I think we're near 1,180 feet up in this pic

a pic of us riding the pill up the tower

and lastly, my complete safety set up - a pelican hook attached to a shackle attached to my belt, that was it, no back lanyard, no lanyard at all.

I've only had the chance to do a few gin pole stacks and they separate the men from the boys
what I'd give to have stacked a 1300 back in the days that you did with the equipment you had.
you've got my utmost respect sir
highest i've gin pole stacked was a 400' knockdown that was an inside climb, massive 3200lb sections because it got heavy ice load and the top section guy strands we had to use an excavator to pull out, they were thickkk

The f'cked up thing about the tower in the above pictures is that the top 100' feet was not supported by guy wires. They wanted to avoid guy wires interfering with their fm radio signal. As we were stacking the final pieces, you could look up from the ground and see the top of the tower bending from the high plains winds.
Anyway, stay safe out there homie.

balaclavas come out when you're doing lighter work where you aren't moving around so much.. they also make it harder to breathe and you're breathing heavy up there
