Is it Buick nowadays? Thought a Cadillac was the old man car of choice. At least I can say I had my few Lambos before turning officially old....and not bald yet. Slightly thinning crown but thinking by 60 I will be in the shaved head crew. But doing much better than my brother did at my age... pretty amazing considering all the massive amounts of AAS some on the misc have asserted I MUST be on.

All jokes aside....kind of was weird to get that in the mail. FWIW, I dont feel old. I kinda relate to 40's. But 50 seems like ancient. When I was younger, 50 year old people were on their way out. I have been lax on my diet last 4 months and not really pushing hard in the gym, but same as the last 13 years, I always train 4 days a week. I dont feel bad for 50. I dont push too hard in the gym weight wise. Wish I could but some underlying injuries, manily a spinal fracture and disk injuries from 5 years ago have never healed right. I just do what I can and try to stay 'in shape'.

Took this a few days ago. (I know, need to clean mirror! My son fingerprints up the mirror when he drops down from sets of chin ups....).

I'm an older guy myself and my car of choice is a Mercedes sedan.

But Buick, Caddy, Lincoln and others like them are nice, too.

By the way, you do look good, you did achieve beast mode!

Let's not feel bad about being "older guys".

Let's just go ahead and look forward to those 3 - 4 (or maybe even more) decades we could still enjoy.

I am not sure affairs would ever be what you want, but if I died tomorrow, my wife and kids have enough to live on and my wife would be taken care of. (no life insurance crew, but have enough in assets and no debt that with enough passive income her lifestlye would not have to change)

A few regrets. Mostly to do with figuring out a little late in life what is important. For me that is not money or material things. If I could go back, I would just be more 'present' to enjoy the moments with my family. I'd be a better husband and more attentive father. But on the same hand, feel lucky that I figured this out in my mid-30's and my wife never left me. Which many women of lesser character might have since I did not give her the emotional support I should have as a husband and father of young kids.

Or maybe you had to go through all that to ever even have the ability to have that perspective now. Someone who worries about money would never feel that way, as you didnt at the time. Its one of lifes little 'jokes'. But you have the time and money now, so now is the time to spend it wisely and well.

Also why not get a big insurance, I mean its still more money for them and probably of little impact to the money you have now right?

I was very lucky in many ways in life. I worked hard for it, but I had done well for myself early. I am a college drop out and I came from a middle class family. Dad an electrician and mom was a mom. I have been self employed since 23 and I worked with unbridled focus. It was never about money, but I wanted to achieve things in life. But I never realized nor did I ever stop to appreciate what I had done or how good each day was. As soon as I hit a benchmark, I would say...what is next. Never once pausing to appreciate the achievement. I had a 9000 sqft home paid for before I was ever married in my 20's.

I had my realization as I was almost killed in my mid 30's.. I was left with a broken neck and head injury resulting in short term memory loss. Took me a year to recover, and in that time, I got a lot of time to think about how I wanted to live my life.

It is why I started training again. I had not gone to a gym in 10 years. It lit a fire in me. 11 weeks after being released by my orthopedic dr, I deadlifted 500 lbs. (after not being in the gym for a decade). I have not missed more than 5 or 6 workouts (unplanned) in over a decade because I made a promise to myself at the time.

I also swore off all material things for quite sometime. I sold off most everything. We went from a 9000 sqft home on 3 ac and moved into a nice neighborhood for our kids into a nice home. I went 3 years without working, just sorting out life. Training was my focus, but the economy was in the tank so I could not do much anyway. I lived off savings. I put my kids on the school bus every morning, and was there to get the off every day. My wife and I spent every day together. She has always been a stay at home mom. It forced us to sort out the issues in our marriage. That took a lot of work too.

In that time I found what it meant for me to be truly happy and none of it had to do with money. You need enough to pay for your daily needs, but beyond that, more money does not add to your happiness.

As years went on I did allow myself to enjoy some things. Mainly with my wifes encouragement. She is the one who encouraged me to buy my first exotic car...etc. And dont get me wrong....that stuff is fun, but the car (nor anything else material) holds much value for me. It is the experiences that I have with it. Sharing it with my son. Going out and doing things together...etc. I can replace the lambo with a fishing pole and it is the same thing. Except I dont like fishing, but cars are fun.

Anyway.... the most important thing I can share is that there is something awesome about every day. I spent my early life trying to achieve something that I dont think I would have ever found. Never once living in the present. Learning to appreciate the moments with those you love is the gift of life. But also loving those moments for yourself. Sometimes for me, it is having a cup of coffee on the porch while I let the dogs out in the morning. Just enjoy it. Take it in.

Desire success, achieve success, but dont let the greatness of each day pass without recognition because you think you are chasing some big goal. Take the blinders off.
