Is there proof red meat causes cancer ?

My family keeps telling me to stop eating meat because it casues cancer. All the studies I find really just point to processed meat being the casue. Is there any proof that a ribeye casues cancer ?

If you burn your red meat when cooking until burnt it's more carcinigenic

If you want to be on the safe side, eat it raw

Yeah basically there are NO studies that show the red meat itself causes cancer. But either processed and smoked is what does it. Or charred. But like REALLY REALLY charred.

Yes OP, burning any organic product creates carcinogens. Charring meat especially creates various carcinogenic compounds such as acrylimides , PAHs, HCAs and COPS etc. However there is also research showing that herbs and spices can lower/neutralize the effects of these.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35457645/

But short answer to your question no “proof” but associated risk. “Processed” meats are more of a concern.

Processed meats, seed oils, added sugar, etc. is the stuff that will cause cancer. It has nothing to do with saturated fats. The closest thing I've heard of to red meat causing cancer is that charring the meat creates HCAs, which are carcinogenic.

Just don't burn your ribeyes to a crisp or eat them with highly processed foods as sides and you'll be fine
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

It's the act of living that causes cancer/death

We learn from the archetypal story ifAchilles, he was promised a long life with great grandchildren if he chose to live a quiet life.

He was promised a young death but memory of his name through the ages if he chose to be a great warrior.

Testosterone causes you to be a great warrior, but it's REALLY hard on your body.

Meat causes you to build a good body, but it is also hard on your body.

In fact calorie restriction in general and little activity Is the path to a very long life. But is that a life worth living?

So, make your choice.

I don't know if red meat causes cancer, but if it did, I wouldn't stop.

Yes

A book published in 2004, The China Study, is strong evidence that it does.

Carcinogens are much like "grass seeds" that need the right conditions, IE, enough sunlight and water to sprout, IE, "spread" to untreatable levels and it is certain levels of animal protein that act as a catalyst, aka "water" to the carcinogen, to allow it to grow.

Every single one of us has carcinogens in us from one source or another (washing hands with gas, inhaling a tiny bit of spray paint, a "GRAS" chemical in sunscreen, etc) - that are waiting for the right conditions to be met, IE, enough animal protein, a weak enough immune system or co-morbidities, to develop and becomes cancerous and to then overtake us.

It is one of the reasons why i actively consume 4oz or less of red meat per day.

That and, lets be real, chicken / meat's gotten stupid fukkin expensive anyways.

My parents were pretty slack about cleaning the grill when I was a kid. I'd cook chicken on the grill and it would be half black from all the old char that had probably been there for months. That's the schit that will give you cancer, OP. Not the meat itself.

Some studies from decades ago tried using association. Like people who ate lots of red meat got more cancer. Well people who ate lots of red meat were also far more likely to smoke. They never take out confounding factors like that. Keep in mind cancer's fuel source is sugar.

I'd worry more about whatever facilitates you to live your life as needed. I'd feel awful on a carb diet and do not want to try vegan.

I've ate nothing but grass fed beef and pasture raised eggs for the last 30 days. I'm down from 195 to 175. I feel great. I look way younger and sleep better. Now my family is telling me I'm gonna get cancer. Pretty sure my previous lifestyle was way worse

This.

But that goes for anything really, for anyone interested look up the “Maillard reaction”.

In short, to the OP, no red meat in and of itself isn’t cancerous. If you enjoy it, eat it. I’d keep processed meats to a minimum though.

Yes. The heterocyclic amines that form in cooked meat are proven to be carcinogenic both in vitro and in vivo.

As with everything, dosage matters, and you will want to consider risk and reward and adjust your behavior accordingly.

tbh i think this is actually the answer, meat is both good and bad for you. Protein builds you up but might also slowly weaken

Meat does not cause cancer, including burnt meat.

I will bet that your family that’s telling you this are doing at least 10 things in their daily life that is statistically far more dangerous as far as cancer goes.

I read some time ago that “Nitrites” that are put into some meats is toxic and can lead to cancer.

Best bet is to buy fresh from local farm/butcher.

The cured meats that say 'no added nitrites' just use some celery extract that is nitrites in at least as high of concentrations.

It's muscle tissue just like any other animal.

Also, I HATE bullsh!t and always ask about food HOW MUCH OF IT CAUSES CANCER?

If I eat a hot dog every five years...does that cause cancer or do I have to eat 20 hot dogs a day to get cancer?!

What do you MEAN?!

Red meat doesn't cause cancer.

If you ate a small cube of it per day you will not get cancer.

If you stuff your intestines with slow digesting meat and don't take a crap but once a week, it may cause cancer.

If you can't tell me how much of a food causes cancer, you don't know what you are talking about and repeating stuff you heard on TV.

Beware of people who don't know what they are talking about but will talk anyway.
