About the most I would personally spend. Got mine for 350 at dinks sporting goods.
But not something to skimp on. You don't want a flimsy *ss bench when you're trying to focus on lifting heavy chit. Especially if it's for your home. A bench is a staple of your basic equipment so might as well do it right.

What's the brand? If I were to make a home gym, I personally wouldn't cheap out for quality as I rather not get hurt.

The only thing that really matters is the weight rating. You can get a 700lb bench for less than $100.
Unless you're buying some bench with lifting attachments $400 makes no sense. Get a separate bench and a $300-400 half rack. You can do a lot more with it.
