UK bros, why can't you use a hair dryer in the bathroom?

There's only one plug here, and I'm not sure what it's for, it doesn't fit the standard plug you guys have here. The lady at the front desk says you can't use hair dryers in the bathroom in the UK. Is this true?

Also why do you have to be 18 in order to buy hair clippers?

Never used that 2 pin plug myself but I think it's for oldschool shavers/toothbrushes lol.

Think the reason there's no plugs is because it minimizes the chance of electric outage and of course suicides by electric shock etc... tfw have to shave pubes/ass in room and then vacuum lmao

Not sure about the age 18 rule for clippers tho - kids here in UK are dumb af and look 40 anyways.

Must be something unique to London hotels I guess. Assuming if there are metal blades it might be an issue, never heard of them not being for sale to under 18's though. We have very strict laws on using electrical items in bathrooms-due to our voltage system, as we have twice the voltage in ours as the US.

Don't you guys have the same voltage as all of europe, or close to it? I don't remember this being an issue elsewhere. 🤔

Who knows? Why did we have giant pull chains to flush our toilets until the 1980's/1990's, rather than buttons? Why are our houses so small? Why are out houses built to be freezing cold in winter & no air conditioning for summer? Why do we have separate cold & hot taps?

Think it’s something to do with electric and water but I dunno mush
brb haven’t met one vaxcel who doesn’t get defensive or mad when you tell them you didn’t get it.

No “vax” for HIV after 40 years of research. No vax for cancer after 100 years of research. No vax for the common cold and yet a virus mysteriously appears and Within 12 months a “vax” is found by 4 pharma companies all within 1 week and we are mandated to take it ….

Bro those pull toilets are pretty cool not gonna lie. It's a very satisfying way to flush.

They were fun, but rather silly-especially for older people with joint problems, as you really had to yank the chain hard to flush properly.

Its for old fashioned shavers and toothbrushes as that miscer said. We dont tend to use them though. I think some Braun shavers still come with that plug tbh but I just buy the adaptor and plug it into my room socket. There's no real need for wired clippers etc these days because the battery will last weeks of regular shaving. A hair dryer left in the bathroom is going to break down pretty quickly from the steam/moisture

I see I see

I've only seen one so far. I've seen more of the two tap sinks, that seems like it's a lot more common. I wish I could have experienced pre-modern toilet Britain.

Nah man, this is some anti-hair dryer in bathroom propaganda here. Where do your women dry their hair?

I always hated gyms that had hair dryers right in the bathroom. Pretty much just the ymca had that from what I recalled.

I don't think I ever once saw anyone actually use it for its intended purpose of drying hair on one's head. All it ever was was old dudes who would stand at the sinks completely buck naked, with one leg propped up on the sink as they used it to speed dry their balls off.

If you're talking about actually carting a hair dryer to the gym with you... uh, why?

My great Aunties house in the 1980's toilet looked more like some sort of torture device rather than a toilet-the whole house looked like it was still the 1930's or 1940's & it had this insanely thick & arched rusted chain, with a massive black lever.

I don't think they were being sold even by that point, had probably been there for 30-40 years at that point. They refused to let anybody in the front room-got caught in there once & was told off by one of them. Apparently back in the old days the front room was kept immaculate & only used for important guests like the local vicar & people just sat in their back room.
