Since I am over the hill, bought me a birthday gift [Pics]

So I celebrated a milestone birthday. Life is good. I just happened to hop on the web and go car shopping and a local dealer had something that interested me. I sold my supercharged Huracan a few months back and could not decide what to replace it with. Not much could match it's performance. But found a 720s w/ Ryft exhaust and downpipes with M-engineering stage II tune. 980hp on 93 oct. And their 'low' boost setting is about 940 (or about 800whp).

I always said I would never own a McLaren, but I am taking the leap. Hopefully I get a good one. (these have a rep of not always being reliable but those are mainly ones that dont get driven)

As I would always do, I bounced the idea off my wife, and she gave me her typical response.... If you want to then go for it. So I pick this up tomorrow!

Sick car. Congrats. You ever see yourself getting a Ferrari? A lot of guys who've owned all these exotics say they're in a class of their own. Never driven one but in terms of looks and brand appeal they stand alone imo.

Thanks all. Most excited for my son. He loves Mclarens. They are his favorite cars. Told him we would never buy one. I almost bought one a few months back but we could not come to a deal. I felt bad since the dealer let me take it for the weekend and I could not let him drive it.

This one will be ours so 100% you know I will be letting him drive. He only has a permit, but the good part about that, is there are no insurance restrictions and you dont have to list permitted drivers. Not sure what if any policy limitation my insurance co will want to write. I had no restrictions on my Huracan, but not sure if they will try to slip in any on this.

Lots of fun, but I am knee deep in our track project car I am trying to get ready for him by spring. I was not really looking to buy a car right now, but this just kind of happened.

Just finishing motor build on his car and waiting on some parts from UK. Sequential shifter got test fit though! SUPER excited about his track car project!

I think my sons S2k is going to have to go outside. Running out of parking spaces. The 1st spot is always for my wife and I get the others....but running out of room.

So I just have what some would call a 'tradie' mentality. My entire life, I have just relied on myself to fix things. That is how you learn. Break something, and fix it. Fuk it up real good and after trying to fix it a few times, then you realize how things go together. Many times I have no idea what I am doing. But I do know I can figure anything out. Worst case...well I dont, and I fuk up another thing along with the 100's of other times I have failed at something in the past.

I have had countless 'failures' in my life. But they are not really failures. They are learning opportunities. I have no fear of failure because I realize it is part of achieving anything worth having. If failure is not a risk, then everyone would have it easily.

Not trying to get philosophical, but I know how to fix things because I was not afraid to try with the risk of not getting it right the first time. Do that over and over your whole life, and it becomes a mindset. Not one I adopted by purpose, but because I had to live my life being reliant on myself.

It is cool, but I dont put too much in it. It is only a car. I have to admit that I was most excited to tell my son we got it. As a dad, those things mean more than your own happiness. My son and I bond over cars and this will be a lot of fun. But I am not married to it. In the end it is only a car.

Also just super cool to be reminded how lucky I am to have my wife. She supports my crazy ideas. I would not feel right doing this without her blessings.

Same thing with my 2006 Nissan Titan pickup truck I bought new and cant part with. I barely drive either of them, but I cant bring myself to part with them. Just as happy driving my KIA as I am a McLaren. Just in different ways. Being happy comes from inside and nothing material brings TRUE happiness. It can surly be fun....I wont ever say otherwise. But it is superficial and should not be confused with happiness of the real sort.

\Thanks man. Ferrari are nice. I prefer Lamborghini personally. Just different approaches. Ferrari are elegant and timeless. Lamborghini is aggressive and edgy angular. Lambos are almost a spectacle of sorts. Ferrari is more tame (some might call it refined). My tastes tend to favor Lambo just because I always was fascinated by them even as a kid. I have owned 2 lamborghini but never a Ferrari.

I did think about joining the Ferrari 'family' but it is a very tightly controlled network. You have to 'earn' your way in. I almost spec'd a roma which the dealer promised me that after that car I could order and get an allocation for one of their top tier cars. But, I am not the type of guy to be that brand loyal. Really they want you to be a Ferrari guy and only a Ferrari. I cant make that commitment and I like all kinds of cars. So I can appreciate a Ferrari for sure, but the brand itself is not for me.

I like variety and I dont want to be 'defined' by something like a brand. I have a decent amount of cars and some nice ones. I dont own a single hat or article of clothing with a automaker brand on it. I dont like labels and I dont like brands. I dont like being defined by something external. I guess that is why I never saw myself as a Ferrari guy. (Or a Porsche guy for that matter!) Hell some of those dudes wear matching under wear to their cars

I know, we are all over-35 buddies. You both come to Tokyo, then drinks on me.

As for Gordo, yes you did say "Flex is..." and I get it, hehe.

Would love to go there some day. My wife and I are home bodies. She does not like to travel. Furthest we have been is Aruba, and that took a lot to get my wife to go. We have a few more years till my son is in college. I am hoping I can convince my wife to travel more.

Those McLarens are so damn sexy, and that power output for a couple bolt ons and a tune is impressive AF. My question is, with the Lambo did you ever find yourself just completely accustomed to the power level, and if so do you think the same thing will happen with this? When I got my current car a year ago it was making about 600 whp and felt fast AF. Got used to that, added some boost, now it's making 750 whp and I'm already at the point where even that just doesn't feel that fast anymore.
