Just got into biking last year, had a crap used commuter bike but ended up loving it. Just bought a new Specialized Roubaix that should make exploring and group rides more enjoyable

Yea a bit concerned that cycling will turn my already DYEL frame into Auschwitz tier, but it’s such a fun form of cardio and great way to explore the countryside, as well as something you can do for decades and won’t kill your joints like running. Also surprisingly good networking as all the group rides I’ve done are full of wealthy boomers spewing out life advice (cycling is an expensive sport im learning).

Goal is to do first triathlon later this year, sadly can’t take bike out anytime soon because of winter but pumped for spring boyos. Any other miscers who are also into cycling?

Mountain biking seems sick, but much more limiting. You can only go on designated trails to really get most use of it. If you live in a badass area like Colorado you have plenty of options. But if you dont then feel like it wouldnt get as much use, compared to a road bike that you can use anywhere

I used to think the same boyo, but have replaced car with biking to work, gym, grocery store, etc. and it's GOAT feeling.

That said did some group rides with cyclists and some can be snobby elitist pricks as well, so wont fight you there

Used to ride thousands of miles per year. Even did a little criterium racing, but my hamstring is so fukked I can't ride anymore. I miss it a lot.

First thing you should do is get a fitting, so you don't mess up your joints or build weird muscle imbalances. 90% of noobs are riding around with bad posture. I used to do them with cameras and lasers and chit to get it millimeter perfect.

I'm 6'3 as well - just know that inventory is **** right now still from COVID, and even harder to find a bike for our size. If you are looking for any road bike or any mountain bike you will be ok, but if you are particular on type or brand then it can get trickier.

I had to find the bike I wanted at a shop online 7 states away , have them ship it to me, and assemble it here because all the local bike shops wouldnt get new supply until November at the earliest.

Don't spend a cent on fitting. First get the seat in the right position. It's not just height it's angle in relation to the crank as well. But you don't really have to worry about the angle because the frame's geometry should get it in the right spot or thereabout. There isn't a whole lot of forward backward range. Set it high enough that you have a small kink in your extended leg when the pedal is very bottom and your foot is horizontal at that bottom position.

Getting the front right is by adding or removing spacers to change the bar height, and possibly changing the stem itself to change the length (the perfectionist approach, or change seat back forth too, but centered seat is generally best).

Your preference will change as you ride more and get used to it and get fitter. Do not change everything because you feel discomfort initially because you will feel that regardless. Your ass, lower back, and shoulders will all hurt until you get used to it. There is no right geometry and the manufacturers acknowledge this by making different bikes in comfort and racing fits. If one is right isn't the other bike wrong? No they're both acceptable but just different. Basically racing is more hunched over, aerodynamic.
