RIP soviet defector Yuri Maltsev

He passed away last month but I just found out. Not a huge name, most of you have probably never heard of him, but I always found his insights into how socialism actually worked in the soviet union very interesting. Maltsev was an economic advisor under Gorbachev that defected to the united states where he became a professor of economics.

The soviet union was an absolute chit show. If you think the pre-Putin management of Russia made sense then yes, I disagree. Marxism, as an ideology, is fundamentally flawed which is why Marxist governments always result in famine and execution being the norm. It's an ideological cancer created in Germany that has been a worldwide plague ever since.

Russia is now fighting this same disease it unfortunately incubated for most of the last hundred years.

But that does not mean some traitors and disidents can make up numbers of Russians Stalin killed and everyone should beleive them.

You know how Arhipelag Gulag was writen by Solzenicin? He sent his his writings to CIA, they said that is nothing, we do that too, if you want book published you need to try harder. So he increased numbes by the factor 1000 or so, and made up some sadist stories, and then he got permission to print the book.

That is his words, he actually returned to Russia in 90s and regreted for all the lies he made up about Soviet Russia, he thought if he attack communists with lies, they will lose power and there will be new Russia with same borders. When he realized that he helped break up the country with his lies, he regreated a lot.

If you're referring to that 200 million number killed, again, that wasn't stalin. That was the total killed through the entire history of the soviet union, and it includes not just executions but things like people killed by famine resulting from mismanagement of resources. I think the number executed he quoted was 40 to 60 million, and that was based on numbers released by the kremlin after the soviet union fell.

He tells a funny anecdote about his family's work in the soviet healthcare industry. His father was appointed as some kind of director of a hospital; it was supposed to be a temporary assignment but they never removed him from the post. When he asked why that was, he was told that it was because the hospital statistics weren't where they need to be and he wouldn't be reassigned until they were.

Basically what they wanted to see was a small number of people dying, but a lot of people visiting the hospital, so that they couldn't achieve the low death number by simply refusing to treat people. So they wanted a hospital full of people that don't need to be in the hospital, essentially

It was a problem because even towards the end of the soviet union, most russian hospitals didn't have running water or plumbing. So if you needed something like a surgery they would have to draw water from a well and boil it to sterilize it. And if the treatment you needed exceeded whatever budget allotment given for each person, they would just let you die.

This is a study done on democide, which is a term that means people killed by their own government. You can look through the data and see if there's anything you disagree with about Russia if you like.

Stalin actually never said that.

It is impossible to count people who were "killed by goverment", without severely inflating the number. If some grant-eater gets paid to make same "study" about USA, number would probably go over a bilion.

Those "studies" impress only low IQ people.

Pepole killed by goverment can only be those that are sentenced to death. There is exact number of death sentences in the records.

For example I read russian docs that 1937-41 there were 550k death sentences. And those were by far the worst years, with war alert, everyone looked like enemy spy. After that, represions stoped. Yezhov was removed, they won the war, Beria made A-bomb... danger passed. State looked solid. No need for paranoia.

They actually went to soft over the years. That is why softie Gorbachov happened.
