So I'm going to be moving within a month. Have so much stuff to pack and sort through. Any tips advice on how to best go about it?

Paying a moving company is money well spent.

Depending on how far you’re going, sell/donate/throw most away and start fresh at your new place

-Get rid of all the junk now. No point in moving with it.

-Use a reputable insured moving company.

-Make sure you move valuables with you, never on the moving truck.

-Pack a box to be opened first for when you get to your destination. Put things like toilet paper, hand towels, hand soap, trash bags, scissors/box cutter, bottled water, snacks, and so on. This way you can comfortably use the restroom and clean up as you unpack.

-Pack lighter items in big boxes, heavy items like books in smaller boxes. Use trash bags to pack hanging clothes on the hangers to easily rehang when unpacking.

my advice is don't do it. if you do, expect to lose lots of time and money. Not just in the move itself, but many years after will be wasted trying to recreate what you used to have. It's a terrible waste.

Purge a lot of stuff. If you haven't used it in a year, get rid of it.

Hire a moving company, they are totally worth it. Just hire one that is reputable and don't get ripped off going cheap.

Be organized. Buy boxes and fill them with labels. Even filling one a day will get you there.

Have all your crap packed into boxes and ready to go well before moving day.

Start early in the morning. As in, be ready to work by like 6am.

If you're moving within the same city/area, try to arrange for there to be more than just 1 day for moving. Moving out is so much nicer when you have a few days or a week instead of 1 day.

Don't skimp on the size of a uhaul. Get a legit uhaul truck and be done with it, srs. Not a uhaul van/pickup, don't try to do it in multiple trips with random vehicles, etc. Skip the bs and get a spacious moving truck.

Consider hiring a moving company for your large, heavy items. You can keep the cost of it down by having your chit together beforehand so it doesn't take them forever to do it. It will be pricey regardless, but moving that big chit by yourself or with one other dude/women who can't lift heavy chit is such a fkn pita.

Have your current place pre-cleaned well before moving day. You don't want to be worrying about cleaning on the same day you're hauling chit like beds, dresser drawers, TV's, etc. around. Especially if you're moving out on the final day when of a home sale when you need to be signing off on key exchanges. The sale on my house I currently live in damn near fell through because when I showed up at the house to see if they were done, the retards were still moving out when we were supposed to be at the realtor's office signing for the sale, and they hadn't done chit for cleaning. I chit you not, the idiots tried convincing me sign off on the sale while they kept moving and cleaning, I said hell no and told them to just gtfo and get away from me. I mean it wasn't unsanitary level unclean, but that was still some fkn bs.

Do not procrastinate. Even if you think you are ahead of the game, you are behind and so much will happen "moving day". Surely don't say "I'll just take care of that on moving day". You'll regret that. Like others said, get rid of junk and anything you really don't want or need. Moving companies, if it's a long haul it's going to suck and be expensive. They are borderline scammers.

As far as moving, you can rent a U-Haul. Get the biggest one, 26ft+, they all get similar crap MPG and the rates are similar on all of them. U-Haul has directories of lumpers/movers in your area and where you are going, one crew to load your truck, the other to unload it. Make sure you have a bluetooth speaker or somethign because their radios in those thigns are base as they get.

If you hire a pro moving company it will be espensive and it will probably be two weeks plus fo rthem to deliver.

Get rid of 90% of it, you wont miss any of it.
