I wanna walk out....

of my job.


Can't stand it. 34 yo with a desk job (although standing desk). About to loose my mind. I've always been used to fast pace work of physical labor.

Now. I sit and wholesale parts for a Ford dealership. Newest guy in here so not that busy...mostly transfering phone calls and dealing with the few customers I do have.

Wife stays home with kids, I make 80k and we are pretty frugal. Not to mention 1 hour commute each way.

Sit here mostly play retro bowl or think of the 50,000 other productive things I could be doing.

I have to support my Family but there has to be better ways. We live in a small rural town outside of Birmingham. My son was born on the 4th and we are seriously thinking about moving back to FL. Would just like to stay close to family.

we are a parts wholesaler so 90% of the business we get is from phone calls. Not sitting or standing here ready to grab the phones...no money.

I'm 110% happy with everything else in my life. Great wife, kids. We have nice land..even though we have a small double wide for now were planning on building in a few years IF we don't move.

I was offered to go work in service, not sure if I wanna do that.

They have spoke with me about being an outside sales rep. Nothing else of that has been brought up, but that kinda got put on hold because my sons due date was so close.

May revist that. Wasn't a fun though going out to shops and what not but now it may be the way.

I know this feel too well. In fact yesterday when I left work I couldn’t help but think “why the fuk am I wasting my life doing this chit?” Well it’s out of necessity to live. But it sucks. It’s demoralizing. Sitting at a windowless cubicle all day long is terrible man and terrible for your mental and physical health. I actually make half of what you earn (although my commute is also half) so I’m not even getting anywhere in life. Depressing AF cuz.

yup. I make $52k to sit under fluorescent lights in a windowless cube.

I have to be here for 8.5 hours despite only doing approx 45 mins of work per day.

there's a ton you could do with an internet connection in between phone calls.

Could you also negotiate working from home occasionally? It sounds like a job that can be done remotely, unless some customers physically come in? If it's just phone calls - wfh and cook, dishes, laundry, in between phone calls on that 1-2 days a week.

If you can't WFH at all:

Here's an idea, since you like physical labor - you could setup a handyman business (or something along those lines), then on your commute home, since it's an hour, there's likely tons of jobs along that hour long commute to bid on. Knock out a job on the way in or the way home occasionally.

Research how to set everything up and do everything while on the clock at the current job.

Then once that business starts to pick up, see if you can cut back to 4 days/week at current job and do more handyman stuff, then just go full time handyman business eventually.

Not sure if feasible, just a thought.

I walked out of 3 crap jobs this year before finding what will be a long term career. More money, less work, no deadlines. Was managing projects for a dirt wage and managing inventory... both had tons of deadlines and stress. Getting paid more now and stress is about 1/3rd what it was.

If you want stress and to have something to complain about, go find it.
