Unpopular opinion about Trump and the establishment
I think it’s pretty clear he was one of them and was putting on a show. He did some good economic things at first but once COVID started he basically quit and became a pro wrestling villain.
As soon as he got the nomination he took funding from everyone. He has been a lifelong democrat, and all of a sudden has a change of heart? He’s certainly no conservative and no Christian - so he did hoodwink a large portion of the base. He was an authoritarian big government Republican in just about every way W Bush was. They are all really neoliberals/neoconservatives, however you want to classify it.
His real function being hijacking Ron Paul’s anti war liberty movement and taking it far to the right, and twisting it into what would eventually boil over on January 6th, effectively ending any resistance to the current establishment agenda. Now if you disagree with Biden (does anybody still even support him?) you are automatically a Trump supporter and a dangerous insurrectionist.
His ideas did not really mesh with those of the libertarian party, or the conservative movement, and he pretended to be both.
The two party system of American politics is nothing but a charade. We live in a corportatocracy which is pretty obvious. Republican or Democrat, neither side gives a flying **** about you but only themselves/sponsors/lobbyists. They would prefer to keep the minds of Americans distracted and fighting amongst each other about minuscule things such as trannies or abortion or whatever, and while the peasants minds are occupied they can make moves to benefit themselves. Then there’s the campaign cycle. Essentially a reality TV show to see who can BS their supporters the most while slandering the opponent.

Don't strongly agree and there are aspects I reject, but I do think the title is misleading: the idea this is an unpopular stance, it's fairly standard.
With Trump co-opting Ron Paul's Liberty movement, too much blame on Trump there. While Trump is a poor successor to Ron, he's better than the neo-cons and the Tea Party or whatever it was - it had already been infiltrated and just turned into a wing of the GOP that was not going to buck the system.
Ron Paul may have been a Republican but his ideas stood fairly outside theirs when it came to foreign policy, I would say in direct opposition. The TP was just anti-Obama and if it had been true to Ron's vision, it wouldn't have gone along with any of the (mostly) grifting Republicans who coopted their movement and used them for votes and donations, then did little in return, certainly little when it comes to foreign policy.
2023, I think Tulsi Gabbard is as close to this as we got at the moment. Far off on domestic issues, some at least, but with foreign policy she nails it.
