35 year old ready to join the workforce
my friend asked me to ask the MISC for advice regarding his employment situation. he couldnt do it himself because he has no internet right now.
so my friend dropped out of college in second semester of freshman year because he got depressed. for the past 15 years he has been living with his parents playing guitar and RPGs in his bedroom all day. he has rich parents but their net worth has dropped significantly due to chitty biden economy. hes being forced to get a job by his parents now or he'll get kicked out.
what advice would you give my friend? he has no real qualifications and never had a job before.

Got kicked out at 21. Best thing that ever happened to me srs. I already had a job though. Working in the basement of a major corp in the utility space. Get in on a basement floor somewhere just shuffling papers around brah. It will at least provide a livable wage while you figure out what courses you want to take in school and get a bachelors. Or you can go shovel poop at a construction site somewhere while going to trade school at night.

I ain't got no advice for no f*cking loser.
Asking for advice to enter the workforce at 35 is already the behavior of a guy who is going to fail.
He wants "advice" like, blah blah blah and then suddenly you'll be alright.
No.
Advice to him is going to be to get a job as a dishwasher at red lobster, but he won't f*cking do it.

i would say get a factory job. plenty of losers, criminals, mentalcels and barely english speaking immigrants. dont need education/experience and they usually always hiring anybody since they have high turnaround because they are boring/easy jobs. pay is usualy a few bucks more then minimum wage too + better benefits.

Damn 35 is late to be JUST starting out.
To save your dignity id look to get some online certifications HVAC/electrician apprenticeship or hell even go to a community college and get a trade certification.

If I were in this situation I’d maybe try and work on an oil rig? Or like a fishing boat maybe??
Not even sure if that’s possible
Entering the work force at 35 is a massive red flag for legit any job

Grocery store job IMO, maybe cashier or something else. Get discounts for their groceries and stuff, while making some money. Go somewhere that throws in some perks, perhaps for example an apartment complex doing odd jobs or even their leasing office, might get a discount on rent there IDK.
Point is find some job make some money, it sounds like he'll still be able to live rent free with his family so maybe the perks don't matter so much.
If by the age of 35 he has no clue what he wants to do with the rest of his life, kinda seems a little hopeless. Like at this point, he just needs to be convinced by a friend to go into a career path that's worth it, or fall into something hopefully good by happenstance. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. He's not doing the preparation part.

We know its you and not your friend OP. Your father and mother should put bars of soap in socks and beat you while you try to sleep. Its too late to abort you but maybe they can make a man out of you yet.

He is way to comfortable with not having to work.
At this point he is absolutely a waste.
His brain is so hardwired to keep doing what he is doing.
The work that it would take to change that, the understandings he has to come to….
it is nearly impossible.
Best of luck.

the fact it started in college was interesting. That is when a lot of people are literally having the greatest time of their life (with superficial hedonistic bs, but it is).

Go back to state school apply for FAFSA. Would he qualify? If he has zero income he could possibly get $10K - $30K in grants alone (no loans) would rather go to school if I never worked than work a chitty job.
Would you rather have a 4 year professional degree or 10 years of McDonald's experience?
So many out of touch boomers say that working minimum wage is a benefit. But I have never gotten hired for it for entry level jobs. My current job it did benefit somehow, but I already had experience in accounting.
