AEW Running Wembley Stadium in the UK

https://www.fightful.com/wrestling/tk-announce

Apparently, the first wrestling show to be held there since SummerSlam 92. I’m not sure how popular AEW is in the UK but I have a hard time believing they can sell 90,000 tickets with this current roster—think they for sure have to bring back CM Punk and probably more.

Very bold move, this could turn into an embarrassment if they can’t even fill up half the stadium.

They will half fill the stadium at least.

Wrestling is popular in the UK and the fans are starved for it although I do see wwe are running tlc there this year.

The market is more than big enough that wwe should have BEEN running a major show there every year.

Put it this way when TNA was at a very ****e point they went to the UK for a few shows and with the size of the arenas and attendance it looked like wwe shows. In the USA they were running out of barns and high school gyms.

I'm not sure yet if I want it to succeed because NA needs an alternative to the WWE Universe or I want it to monumentally fail so maybe Khan will finally evaluate why AEW has been failing for over a year now on actually growing.

aew already gave out 25,000 presale codes...so that's gonna be ~50,000 sold off the bat.

bring in okada, ostrich, get punk back and goldberg for one night, mcyntire if he's actually available and i think you can sell out or come damn close.

aew actually does better ratings in the UK than wwe believe it or not.

I don’t think signing up for a presale code is indicative of how many people will actually buy tickets. Some of those are probably kids hoping their parents will give them the money for the tickets. And some of those are probably brokers looking to buy tickets just to resell them to people at a higher price.

Will Ospreay should be in action.

Would be gold if they can get Drew McIntyre for the PPV. Expect Kenny Omega and Jay White to be in a major match on the show.

we'll see. i don't like tony khan, but he has been pretty good with "supercards" and "dream matches" for his core audience. i think they hit 75k no problem and most likely sell the place out.

he'll never be able to figure out tv ratings, but he's surprised a lot of people re: drawing houses. wembley is a different level though.

TNA drew HUGE crowds in the UK. They love wrestling. I'm sure they'll be fine.

TNA's "HUGE" UK crowds were in the 8-10k range iirc. it's not the same

i think aew is banking on a lot of other europeans traveling for this too. i could see it ending up with a sort of world cup vibe where everyone brings their country's flag and goes extra hard when their guy is in the ring.

90k is a lot. they will have to market this the right way and make sure the card is 10/10 fire.

Wembley arena has 12,500 capacity.

That can be their plan b.

I imagine they could get 60k + as there is so little wrestling in the Uk.

In speaking with multiple sources today, PWInsider.com has learned that AEW has exceeded 50,000 pre-sale registrations for the All In London at Wembley Stadium event.

While nothing is guaranteed, if even half of those registrations purchased two tickets, that's 50,000 seats.

It's all positive in terms of signs of interest for what looks to easily be the biggest live crowd in AEW history this August.

Fans in the UK can pre-register for early access to All In: London at Wembley Stadium tickets at ticketmaster.co.uk/AEWWembley. The pre-sale will kick off on 5/2.

Tickets can be purchased by the general public on 5/5.

i don't think there's a chance in hell that the stadium will be more than half empty in august

They are definitely generating a lot of interest for a show with no announced matches or stars.

WWF put just under 80 thousand in there for Bulldog vs Bret & Savage vs Warrior-when WWF was insanely hot over here, Germany, Spain etc back then. I cannot possibly see how this is not going to look like an embarrassment. The only advantage is they are on terrestrial television-but ITV 4, not ITV 1 & WWF was on Sky only back then-WCW aired on ITV.

Wrestling is not really that hot here-WOS ratings sucked when they tried reviving it on ITV a few years back. WWE is big of course & like in the US AEW has it's core fanbase. Plus they have scheduled it on the same weekend as the Notting Hill Carnival & the Hundred Cricket Finals at Lords.

It comes off as more Khan insanity. Why not try & book The Oval, Stamford Bridge, Elland Road etc? Even if they sell 50-60 thousand tickets, it isn't going to look great at Wembley.

I saw CM Punk on the AEW All In poster.

That means he is wrestling on the event?

I have a feeling the main event is going to be MJF vs. Will Ospreay for the AEW World title.

But how are Ospreay’s merchandise sales?

They need something bigger than that for a main event if they want to fill 80%

honestly i don't think it really matters what the last match on the card is. i'm sure some of the marks in the locker room give a chit, but if the card is packed with enough big matches with something for everyone, i think selling the show won't be resting on the shoulders of the "main event".
possibilities-

sting's last match/sting's last match in europe
goldberg's last match/goldberg's last match in europe
big punk match
big danielson match
big mjf title match
ostrich/kenny or whatever match they're gonna pitch hard to the metlzer marks/this is awesome crowd
bucks/ftr 3?

that's without figuring in moxley, jericho, hatyer/the women, adam cole, hardys(who will always be a draw and should be in a 4 team match or 8 man tag), big show

punk/ftr vs the elite is the money the match. i know what the word is coming from the dirtsheets, but i don't trust anything anyone says about aew anymore. so much disinformation, misinformation, stoogery on different levels, an idiot owner, a bunch of idiots in the locker room....it's a mess. people love a good trainwreck.

public on sale didn't even happen yet. 50k sold by the end of next weekend is a legit possibility.

Tony Khan tweeted out that they’ve now sold 43K in their presale. Tickets go on sale to public Friday, so it wouldn’t be surprising if they had over 50K by the end of this weekend.

They hit 50K today before they go on sale to the general public tomorrow.

I think they might do 90k here boys.

The crowd alone is going to make this a must watch wrestling event. It will present AEW as properly legit and a genuine second option in pro wrestling.

The question is will they capitalise

The answer is probably not.

for the first time ever, it seems like tony khan is willing to defer to other people on creative decisions.

as far as the wrestling business goes, having jarrett on his team is HUGE.

i don't have faith in the guy to make this thing a legit #2 because it seems like he only started the company to fulfill his mark fantasies....but this is a big deal

75k tickets distributed with almost two months til the event and zero matches announced. this one will be an announced max capacity sellout, boyos and highest attended wrestling event in uk history.
