16 Corolla not starting

Got the battery tested it came good.

Most likely needs a new starter?

Lights turn on radio all that no issue. Starts with a boost.

Runs until I shut it off don't think it's an issue with the alternator.

My friend is gonna check it out Monday or Tues

Battery good.... sure about that? Make sure you have good connections. If it will start with a boost such as a jump or jump box you have a voltage issue.

Yeah seems kind of sus. I have seen some cars with a circuit that won’t trigger the starter unless the voltage is within range but I didn’t think a carolla had that. Try this, don’t use a boost but have somebody crank it while you tap the starter with a hammer. Basically the commutator in the starter has little “stripes” that wear out/get corroded and cause it to get “stuck”, giving it more juice or tapping it with a hammer can unstuck it. But my guess is a starter or solenoid(though you usually just replace both), or a voltage regulator

It’s so unlikely it’s the starter in a seven year old Corolla. I bet it’s something battery related if the chitbox starts with a jump/boost.

I’d put a code reader on that thing as well, see if it pulls anything..

This. Check the battery terminal connections are making good contact. could clean with wire brush if any corrosion. sometimes looks ok but isn't ok. i had a car where i needed to tap on mine with a hammer (very lightly, they break easy) to make the connection better then it would start. eventually got new terminals obviously.

if it starts fine with a boost, something with battery highly suspect.

If the battery hasn't been replaced in 7 years, just replace it. Will probably fix your issue, be sure to clean the terminals up a bit before installing the new battery.

Newer cars are voltage hogs. My 2016 Honda battery lasted 4 or 5 years and then wouldn't start the car, but tested fine. I still use that battery in a 70's Classic, but a new battery in the Honda fixed my issue.

If the battery has never been replaced and is 7 years old, much higher likely its the battery. Batteries don't last 7 years.

Battery is only a little over a year old. I got the battery tested at 2 different places. They both said if was good. Tried taking it in to see what the problem is and all the mechanics are booked since Thurs. Sounds like the issue is the starter.

A very long time ago I had a Jap SUV. It wouldn't start unless I jumped it off. It would sit an idle fine. However, when I tried to drive it, it would freak the fuk out. Christmas tree lights on the dash everywhere blinking on and off like we were under a nuke attack. Auto tranny wouldn't shift correctly and it was bucking like a zoomer trying to drive a stick shift.

I always thought that a car should be able to operate solely on the alternator once started. So I went and bought an alternator and brought it to my buddy who's a mechanic to install. He came back and said it was the battery. Changed the battery and didn't have anymore issues until the starter went out 7-8 years later. So, even though the battery is testing good, it still might be the battery. Go to a friends house and totally unhook your battery and see if his battery makes it start. If so, then it's more than likely your battery.

I've found that it's seldom worth my time not just running my car into the shop when shiiit like that comes up. Srs. I can either spend about a grand a year having a shop keep my car fixed up (talking everything from basic maintenance, to oil chances, to big repairs) while letting me use a loaner car free of charge while they do it, or I can waste like a dozen weekends a year farting around on it myself to fix it for roughly half the price instead. Seems like an obvious choice to me. Plus a lot less days needing to find alternate transportation methods for myself while I fart around on my car.

Bet your battery cables are corroded. Sometimes it travels up the cable a bit.

Take them off, clean terminal posts and inside the connectors. Tighten back up and vroom.

Does it click inside or dim the interior while turning key? Seriously doubt starter is a problem.
