would u quit if ur employer nagged about your clothing?
i'm a developer with no client interactions and generally wear whatever, no one has ever questioned it or anything
pretty sure if someone did start laying it on thick tho that they disapproved or whatever - i'd be looking for a new job asap

Last summer I wore polo's and pants. My boss told me I had to wear button downs.

Depends on a lot. If customers are in and out of the office, I'd expect business casual. And neatly trimmed and shaped facial hair. I don't think it's too much to ask. We're there to do business and make money. I don't care about your "comfort".
