Yup, in fact it already is. The tech currently available is crazy. I'm not sure if we are close to the singularity as many people seem to think but the world is going to start changing significantly over the next 2-5-10 years. I'm excited for a personnel assistant on my phone like Samantha from the Movie her - Someone already made a rudimentary one and we are so close now, i expect it to be on phones within the next 2 years. We will probably cure aging and all diseases in our lifetimes and creating a new unique movie will be as simple as saying "make a 2 hour long sc-fi movie about aliens attacking earth".

From my experience though misc doesn't seem to care much about this stuff.

this is all based on the false claim that chatgpt is "almost" AGI (artificial general intelligence)... it's nowhere close to AGI... we are nowhere close to AGI

173. If the machines are permitted to make all their own decisions, we can't make any conjectures as to the results, because it is impossible to guess how such machines might behave. We only point out that the fate of the human race would be at the mercy of the machines. It might be argued that the human race would never be foolish enough to hand over all power to the machines. Of course, life will be so purposeless that people will have to be biologically or psychologically engineered either to remove their need for the power process or to make them "sublimate" their drive for power into some harmless hobby. These engineered human beings may be happy in such a society, but they most certainly will not be free. They will have been reduced to the status of domestic animals.

You are right but also maybe wrong. We can't define consciousness nor is there a true consensus on what AGI actually is. ChatGPT could be one component of AGI, it could potentially (arguably unlikely) become AGI through emergent traits or we could be way off the mark and many many years away. We really don't know at this point.

Either way, it doesn't take AGI to drastically change the world, i truly believe what we currently have and what we will have in the next few years will without doubt transform the world as we know it.
