Off-duty cop faces dismissal for shooting unarmed burglar who broke into his apartmen

https://abc7chicago.com/hyde-park-ch...ting/13181034/

On a sunny afternoon in the summer of 2019, Officer Noble Williams was watching television at his Hyde Park apartment when he heard knocks at his neighbor's door.

Assuming it was a burglar, Williams said his "police instincts" pushed him to fasten his gun to his jogging pants and confront the thief, Bryant Nocentilli. A protracted struggle between the two men ended with Williams firing two shots at close range and grazing Nocentilli in the head.

Nocentilli - who was not armed - escaped but was later arrested, prosecuted and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Williams now faces dismissal from the police department as the Chicago Police Board considers findings by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability, which concluded the shooting was "an egregious violation" of the department's use of force policy.

An investigatory report issued by the agency offers conflicting accounts of what happened, with Nocentilli relating that he was shot "for no reason" and Williams claiming he fired under duress after pleading with Nocentilli to stop resisting.

What next, if someone tries to carjack you, and you blow them away, you'll be fired? Probably.......

They already do stuff like this in my homeland.

If a burgler injures themselves robbing your property you are held responsible for their injuries. This can include jail time.

Actually fighting or shooting them? Lol pepper your angus

Soon most states will be like NJ where you can carry now, but you cant use it and if you do you will be charged or ran thru the ringer and have legal fees up the ass for a legit self defense, even TX isnt immune to this.

If someone breaks into ones home, armed or unarmed, the homeowner has a duty to kill that person, by any mean necessary, even if that person is in the process of feeling. The State should do two things after the shooting, mandator minimum jail sentences for anyone trying to revive him, meaning, once you call 911 and tell them what happened, their only response would be..ok, call us back when's hes dead and we'll send a clean-up crew out.. and then award all the assets of the deceased to the homeowner.

He was literally preventing his neighbor's residence from being burglarized, and now he's being punished for it????

LOL at Dave's low standards.

Article says he's being punished for being a bumbling (fat? drunk?) cop who was struggling to keep his sweat pants on during an arrest and shot at someone who was "resisting".

Since governments have decided to not prosecute or police these types of disputes, let the citizens work it out themselves. No prosecution for criminals, no prosecution for vigilantes, and we reach equilibrium.

If someone tried to physically carjack someone without a weapon, and the victim was armed, pulled out the firearm and shot the offender, should the victim be charged?

The officer is a victim eh? Poor fella.

Is he being charged with a crime or being disciplined by his employer for not following company policy?

Nah, he was acting as a police officer and might be out of his job for being unprofessional while trying to prevent his neighbor's residence from being burglarized.

Good on him for stepping in, and blast away if there was a deadly threat, but the officer allegedly wasn't following department policy and got caught with his pants down.

Again.

He's had 20 complaints against him and been reprimanded twice.

He has received his Emblem Of Recognition for Physical Fitness on the regular though, so maybe the question about being a fatty was baseless.

Isn't it also a possible outcome that he goes through the review process, they deem it a perfectly legitimate use of force and he just goes on with life?

You're not really mad that he lost his job (because that didn't happen yet and may never happen), you're mad that there is a review procedure to determine if the justification behind use of force is legitimate or not.

COPA does sound annoying as **** though.

Yup. I'm all for that by now. Whatever happens happens. If people die, well, shouldn't have been doing what they were doing.

Yeah I mean what if it was some psychotic murderer or rapist? Why are we expected to assume that anyone who breaks into someone's home only has the best of intentions?

It's more of the power that this Civilian Review Board has. It's almost like you have to be shot, and return fire, if you don't want them possibly firing you.

Know of a cop who was involved in an alleged domestic battery, it was on video that his girl was the one attacking him.

He's been stripped and at callback for 3 years because of COPA.
