Finally got enough time to buy a PS5 with GOW bundle, and THIS is what the hype is about? A fukin animated movie? Ive been playing for over an hour now and spent 3/4 of the time in cutscenes. I dont give af about the story, i picked up a controller to actually play the game. Sony must have lost their mind making this trash.Tell me this changes soon because Im never playing another GOW again if it doesnt.

My buddy at work said GOW 2018 is his favourite game of all time. Due to that monumental statement I gave it a go and I concluded he's batchit insane. Made a thread about it which probably applies to the latest game too:

I think this is the first game in history where I've disliked it to begin with, really enjoyed it until about 2/3s of the way through, then completely lost all desire to play it, but forced myself to finish the story just so I can get the full picture.
The traversal is slow, clunky and just sucks. You can't jump. Atreus is a whiny little kunt, irritating and says nothing of substance ever. Worse still if he runs toward you he will sometimes push you along the ground if you're stood in his stupid path. There's so much lore and backstory which makes 0 sense unless you played the previous games. Boat traversal is slow, clunky and pointless. You unlock fast travel too far into the game. The stat system is fkin terrible. Brb got a bunch of random gems n sheeit that gives me +1 vitality -3 defence jfl wut? I Pretty much chose 1 outfit and ran with it for the entire game because it's just so convoluted and awful to navigate and understand the menus and stats I just gave up on it. Endless lore and beastiality popups littering my HUD because fukboi Atreus gives me 1 line of advice to help beat a certain enemy, who fkin cares.

The list goes on. Kratos is perhaps the most alpha video game character of all time but that ain't enough. I just don't get the hype.

Pretty much my feelings as well. It's a game that looks great and has some amazing locations but the rest of it isn't noteworthy at all.

I remember I couldn't believe it was everyone's GOTY over Spidey which I thought was a much better game.

Did you play the previous games? It's an amazing game. The combat is nothing like the old games, which sucked when I first started playing it, but the story and the hardest difficulty make up for it. GOW3 is the best of them all, IMO, but the newest ones are great, but I'm a huge GOW fan. The way they swapped from Greek to Norse mythology was much better than I expected it would be and the story plays out very well. I get why you don't like it, though.

They'll probably end up making a spinoff series with Kratos' annoying son.

Watched someone play this and it was like a corridor simulator with cutscenes. How anyone thought this was even close to Elden Ring is beyond me.

The scale of the game is very small, everything is like corridors and tight rooms, save the few "open spaces" that are also pretty small, Ps4 held it back quite a bit probably.... garbage story and characters but that aint hardware fault.

Combat gameplay is the only motivation I had to finish the game, even tho enemies are also chit.
