ITT: describe your training this week so far (DYEL welcome for motivation)

I pulled my upper back a bit a few weeks back so I lightened up my pull days for 2 weeks. Was able to hit it with a vengeance yesterday after a week off my cut, fully glycogen refuelled. Got a ridiculous pump. Was nice to hit heavy ass T-bar rows again. Increased my weight on weighted chinups. Blasted some Sepultura. Garage door open as the weather is warming up. Just an overall great lifting environment.

How's everyone lifting week going so far?

For your time......

Did some random full body DB BS at home yesterday then stretched my sht out pretty good. Probably do some curls/tris after work before I get my sex cardio in with one of my mains. We'll see what tomorrow brings. Body is definitely beach worthy but am going to try pumping as much as possible before my first of 3 Cancun trips in a few weeks

Managed to pull something in my lower back Monday when doing barbell rows, I think because I sat down almost all weekend. The next day I managed to do 1h of cardio ( as planned ) and today I did some armwrestling specific workouts, pump felt great. I think I will be able to successfully train shoulders and back tomorrow and legs the next day. Can't wait to OHP tomorrow and do front squats / snatch grip deadlifts ( just incorporated these into my leg workout )Feels good on legs / upper back, hhngg.

Pulling stuff is the worst. Talk about throwing a wrench in your training plans.

Monday did a hamstring dominant leg day. Tuesday did some shoulders. I've recently switched to seated smith machine ohp and find it better for longevity and BB purposes. Today will be tire flips. I will just flip a big tractor tire 100 times. Thursday will be deficit deads and some grip training (bumper plate holds and hammer curls). Friday will be farmers carries and arms. I definitely could have structured things a little bit better but scheduling worked out better this way

Every morning starts with a walk, some shoulderrok work, and stretching. Typically do hot yoga Saturday and Sunday

I'm currently running a fairly interesting highly-modified version of PPL, wherein I've chosen one push movement (Flat DB), one pull movement (Pronated-grip pulldowns), and one leg movement (Squat) that I am tracking and actually attempting to increase strength over time, and the entire rest of each workout is done purely on feel and what I think would benefit the movementandmy physique based on that day's performance.

PLers will do similar for their SBD - same idea except I picked movements I enjoy more than standard flat BB bench and DL.

So Monday kind of turned into an entire posterior-chain day. Did the pulldowns first, then ended up hitting some DLs (done purposefully slow with significant emphasis on paying attention to engaging my lats through the entire ROM), then two variations of rear flies. First a purposefully-heavy version that was meant to force mid-upper back and trap engagement, and then a purposefully-light version that targeted the rear delts specifically without the aforementioned engagement of the bigger/stronger muscles. By the time I was done my lats were toast, and all of the rest of my mid-upper back and traps were quite upset as well (in a good way). Plus the pump in my glutes/hams from the slow DLs.

Yesterday was the Leg/Squat day. Fairly simple and straight forward day - Squat first, then immediately moved over to my new absolute-favorite leg machine, the Composite Motion leg press (seriously - it mimics squatting better than literally any otherleg pressI've ever used, with the very interesting difference being that the force-tension curve ishighestat the top of the motion, rather than being equal all the way through). Then just super-set quad extensions and calf raises for a bit, and went home.

Today is a Rest day. I don't do PPLPPLR, as I don't feel like my joints handle the stress of that frequency very well anymore. Instead I sprinkle rest days in as needed, and average out to about 4.5 workouts per week, hitting each day/movement-of-choice about 1.5 times per week.

Tomorrow will be the "Push"/Flat DB day. I feel there is amassivebenefit to pulling just a little bit on push days (I'm a firm believer in pulling motions outweighing push motions both in terms of strength and total training volume), so it'll probably be something like Flat DB press, followed by a low-CNS-demand pulling motion (like a machine row, hammer strength row, something like that where my torso is supported), then I'll definitely hit some delts directly with a good amount of volume. Probably hit some direct ab/core work as well just for chits and giggles. .

Very interesting, thanks for sharing! I also do a modified PPL. At the moment while cutting, I shift into a reverse pyramid approach. Nice change of pace.

Yeah I'm cutting right now too. About 9 pounds to go. If I was in maintain/gain mode I wouldprobablyjust program in a straight 2-days of rest each week and hit 5 workouts per week every week. But a touch more recovery seems to be benefiting me since I've been adding weight and reps to my desired lifts consistently, while losing weight, without making my joints upset. Seems to be a good balance for me when looking at the full context.

Check out Boho Beautiful Yoga on YT. The chick is sexy AF IMO and she has dope routines. Some more serious Vinyasa or whatever the fuk it's called but also some before sleep easy yoga/stretching that you can honestly do in your bed SRS. It's def not the easiest to stick to but doing the easier stretching ones every once in a while really does help.

At the very least, I've found that doing hamstring/leg stretches before bed helps me sleep much better. Just the standard ones learned in HS football and such. Quick and easy but works wonders even if you didn't work your legs out recently. "Negativity stored in your lower body throughout the day" aka we humans use our legs a lot even if we don't work them out SRS

Im cutting right now, but still holding strong and going relatively heavy. Basically im on a 6 day split and on the 7th day i play sports or do some cardio. Calories are low because im a fast cutter but i have a trip with the boys mid june and i think thats going to be my final and best form ever.

Hit shoulders on monday and legs yesterday, today its mothers day here but i think imma try to squeeze a back and biceps day late at night, aint nobody got time to rest on a wednesday.

Wrestled Monday, then squats on Tuesday, and upper body today. On a deload so nice and easy lifting this week. Have two more gym sessions and 2 open mats left this week.

Considering dropping a gym session and including an aerobic workout in my next block of training.

Interesting OP I've never tried any really intelligently designed machines like the one you describe but I'd love to!

I disagree with pushing vs pulling strength having to be equal and I also think it's unachievable. How many elite level powerlifters can row as much as they bench?

In saying that, I do enjoy a few sets of rows before push based movements and I feel that the upper back/lat pump makes you feel more stable and secure on the bench. More stability = more potential to exert force (I also feel it's partly placebo based on personal beliefs etc).

Pulled back a lot on lifting as I'm pretty much maxed out. High risk Strength training isn't worth the measly gains I now get and at advance lift levels so I'm done with it. Lockdown proved to me long term natty gains hardly diminish at all with pretty much no lifting and daily walks/runs.
Now just one compound lift and doing a pyramid of 15,10,7 reps. Then a bodyweight movement for 3 set of max reps
Eg today was DB Incline press followed by banded push ups to failure x 3. Takes around 10-15mins.

Main focus is now endurance for the rest of the workout in the form of Hitt on the treadmill, trampoline rebounding (highly underrated) , light kettlebell swings, prowler pushing and steady state on the stationary or battle bike. Aside from Hitt its often done as a circuit.
Then 2-3 sets of 20sec stretches for the whole body. Takes 60-75mins in total. 45-60min if just cardio.
Will keep this up til the end of the summer and then pursue things like tough mudder, spartan races, apply to ninja warrior... that kinda stuff.

A. Don't use "elite level powerlifters'" version of benching to make a point. Their methods of reducing ROM negate the argument in the first place, but additionally theydon't trainany Row variation with primary focus. If PLing included Squat, Bench, Deadlift, andHorizontal Bench-Supported BB Row, they'd train for it just as hard as the rest and would probably develop ways of moving stupid-huge amounts of weight... more than they press, I wager.

B. If you compare a low-core-demand, low-stabilization-demand chest press like BB bench to a high-core-demand, high-stabilization-demand row like bent over BB rows, then yes a person is far more likely to push more than they can pull. But not because they're weak at pulling, simply because therestof the demand that motion places on the body is too high.

If you simply reverse your pushing motion (Literally. If doing flat DB press, set up a bench to do chest-supported DB rows. If you're doing BB bench, use a cambered bar on an elevated bench to row) most people are, orshould bestronger at the pulling motions if they are training with any real regard for longevity, joint health, and without neglecting the non-beach-muscles (the actual most important factor tbh).

If you're going to claim someone 'is or isn't', or 'should or shouldn't be', or 'can or can't be', stronger at one or the other - you need to compare apples to apples.

Next time you're in the gym just try it yourself. Set up a flat bench and do some good, full-ROM DB pressing (not stopping at 90 degrees with the weights above your chest, and actually pressing all the way to 98+% of lock-out), and then give it a minute and flip yourself around. If you need to elevate the bench to get the full ROM, do it. And do some flat, fully-supported (just like if you're benching...) DB rows.

You'll probably be closer to equal than you think, and then realize for two seconds "Hey...I don't train this motion with any real focus. I bet if Ididtrain this with equal focus, I'd probably end up being stronger at it than the 'equivalent' pressing motion".

The muscles in your back are designed to be bigger and stronger (by a large margin, actually...) than all of your pressing muscles. The population in general simply doesn't focus on them because they're not as showy as pecs, or as 'impressive' as anterior or lateral delts.

A quick Google search revealed the world record seal row (chest supported barbell row) is 150kg set by a 105kg lifter (sceptical and I do believe there are probably plenty of people who can do more than this but even still). There are countless people who weigh far less than 105 who can bench press well above 150kg.

Also can you point me towards some evidence regarding pull/push ratio and shoulder health/longevity? Because I'm certainly not aware of any and I think it's a load of broscience nonsense.
