Catholics and Jews are very similar. They are quite compatible, although Jews are more neurotic.

I would say that both groups are probably lower IQ, but still are able to find success due to having a wide social network of like minded people. Both groups push their kids to be Doctors and other professional jobs. Lots choose to start their own businesses instead of working jobs their entire life.

Well, St Thomas Aquinas who is a catholic was extremely smart and influential to philosophy. Probably the greatest theologian and philosopher of the middle ages. Mind mogs everyone

But St Thomas Aquinas lived before the reformation.

So he was part of the old catholic church.

And as such, was not committed to a lot of church doctrine that would later become dogma.

For example, the infallibility of the pope.

St. Thomas Aquinas... he was a sexy fuk for a catholic. No doubt.

Ex-Catholic checkin in.

Actually, there might be a difference between the "old catholic church" and Roman Catholic church.

But I'm not sure.

Like before the reformation... everyone one belonged to a universal church... I think. I think this is the old catholic church.

So why don't Protestants claim Aquinas?

But you have to also remember...

Martin Luther was a catholic before the reformation too.

Does anyone know when the term "Catholic" began to exist?

Did it exist before the reformation?

This is true

Consider modern higher education. Catholic university phds can rival their secular rivals any time, any place. Yet we speak of 1 billion faithful. Some clearly are dumb as mud. The theological intellectual firepower certainly dwarfs the modern religions du jour such as Scientology or, gasp, Mormonism.

it's the same wisdom almost everyone professes in a way at least a few people can coherently strive towards

protestants, like Luther, just try to rationalize being mad at their fathers

Nicene Creed.

For an ex-Catholic you don't seem to know anything about the faith. I'd suggest you read the Catechism.

Sola scriptura is a protestant invention. It can not actually be found in the Bible itself.

What's really low-IQ is protestants who think their version of hocus bocus bible stuff is any less ridiculous than Catholocism or any other religion. To address your specific points:

1. St. Paul is no more of a big deal than many other saints in Catholocism. 90% of every day Catholics don't give a shiiiit about saints in general, either.

2. The "gotta be baptized or you go to hell" thing was always a bigger deal to most protestants than it was to most Catholics I've known in my lifetime.

3. Plenty of protestant reverands have been caught being diddlers too, and all cases of that should be dealt with accordingly, but the media never talks about it because that's not the narrative majority protestant America wants to hear.

4. I know almost no protestants who know anything about the bible at all beyond what their pastors tell them to think.

5. Protestant churches have always struck me as the biggest NPC religious experiences ever.

Say, ˹O believers,˺ We believe in Allah and what has been revealed to us; and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and his descendants; what was given to Moses, Jesus, and other prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them. And to Allah we all submit.

To the bros interested in Catholicism ITT, I recommend checking out E Michael Jones. He offers a historically consistent (and now politically incorrect take) Catholic and educated take. The two used to be synonymous.

You don't have to pray to saint Paul, the saints are alive in Christ and you ask for their intersession, etc, etc.
Christ clearly commands baptism (there maybe exceptions like the thief on the cross but that doesn't change or invalidate the command)
This goes back to the binding & loosing of sins, even in the old testament David confesses his sin.
You can read the bible yourself, it was translated into many languages before the reformation.

Roman Catholicism has plenty of issues but there is a basis for what they do and believe. Protestants have many issues as well, 30,000 denominations that all believe they have the truth.
