Finished my first ever Marathon, disappointed with time but still done it brahs

As most of you are probably aware, been training for this marathon for 5 months (although took a few weeks off due to injuries/moving) although I’m happy I managed to complete it, I was disappointed with how slow I was during today race because during training I did my runs much faster. I also carb maxed 3 days prior.

I think probably because I was running with thousands of other people it slowed me down but even then I should of atleast hit sub 4 based on my training runs.

The thing is I wasn’t even out of breath my legs were in fking agony and felt stiff/heavy af. I had to walk when I got to 17-18 miles then ran again from there.

No more running now for the foreseeable future, gonna get back to lifting and get jacked again as I’ve lost so much muscle.

Marathon time today, it was also extremely hilly but no excuse as I’ve done same elevation during training:

Pics of my training runs where I did a half marathon and 18 mile run, plus more short runs:

Why have you scribbled out your face when we all already know what you look like OP? Anyway gjdm on completing the marathon.
“Steroids is now just a word that the lazy and ignorant use to describe any guy that has more muscle and dedication than them”– Mike O'Hearn

"I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym; I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home; I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage; when I pump up, when I pose out in front of 5000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. It's terrific, right? So you know, I am in heaven."

Bro just finishing is an accomplishment, so repped for good job. That last half looked like it must have hurt though.

Best thing right after to make sure you don't wake up in traction - ice bath. No kidding. Sucks for five to ten minutes but soak your legs in serious cold and it helps a ton.

Massive blisters and were burning srs

I took loads of sweets and energy gels with me, the crowd gave us water and food during the run and encouraged everyone.

Me and my brahs went to the bar after the run and had some beer and cocktails lol.

Gonna have a full Sunday roast now with lamb and chicken, got some dessert aswell.

Must of easily burnt like 3000 or so calories so gonna binge eat now, extremely hungry tbh.

Never understood this marathon business (other than historically). you could just as well have completed 4 miles and considered yourself a success. no point in beating up your body for muh 26.3 or whatever.

if that was your goal though congrats.

I never had any interest in running prior to it either tbh.

Me and my friends signed up last year as it was one of there ideas for charity, so I thought fuk it why not lol.

I didn’t start seriously training for it till December/January.

Probably won’t do another again, then again I can’t say for certain. Atleast it’s something off the bucket list now.

10k/6 miles is easy af (well atleast for me, not sure how experienced you are)

Just run as fast as you can while breathing through your nose, never through mouth as you’ll get tired more easily.

And just eat some decent carbs before hand.

Yeah not gonna lie opie that’s a terrible time.

Do another one and redeem yourself. Srs. Don’t let that be your time for a marathon if you plan on never doing it again.

Edit - your half marathon times r solid. You should be doing a marathon in the 4 hour mark Srs. 4 hour - 4-15 I would imagine

The thing is I don’t understand how my pace was much faster during training.

Maybe cos I’m not use to running with thousands of other people, especially trying to overtake everyone.

Another theory is that almost all my training was done in cold weather, today was fairly warm so ain’t used to it.

Funny how there’s always a poo-pooer or naysayer who has to rain on the parade of anyone expressing pride in themself.

OP running a marathon is nuts. You’re not even a runner bro. You should be proud.

I usually did 3 short times a week (3-5 miles) and one long run, started at 6-7 then increased mileage on long ones each week till I got to 18.

I was supposed to do a 20 mile training run but due to work/injuries and moving house I was like 4-5 weeks behind on my training programme srs.

Overall I did 235 miles in total when the programme I was supposed to be following was total of 345 over the course of 16 weeks.

So yeah it obviously helped but definitely could of been more consistent and done better.
