I hope it's either entirely new or more in-line with the older MK games. As a lifelong MK fan, the last gen really left something to be desired for me compared to the arcade thru PS2 era.
I'd also love to see "Konquest" come back, or even a full adventure game in its own right a la Shaolin Monks.

I loved fighting games growing up, but at my age and with all the complexities it's not the same. MK9 was great. Tekken is no fun with wall strings, and Street Fighter 5 had microtransaction issues, SF6 is woke. I'm out and see no need to get back in.
Fighting games are most fun with an equally skilled opponent. Randoms are no fun after the first month because top tier players scare everyone else off.

There's something weird about fighting games for me. If I'm getting my ass beat, I don't mind if I'm playing and talking to someone friendly. But if it's completely muted, I'm just getting my ass beat, it's not a social thing anymore and I get mad if I lose too many times in a row.
Most of these games don't have or the players don't use voice chat, or they're just turds. When I used to play in the arcades, there was almost always mutual respect, maybe with a little friendly sh*t talking, not hateful or anything. These days its just toxic and disrespectful or the game doesn't have VC.
The other thing is when I used to play with my friends and we got a new game, we'd experiment with all the characters. People online just pick the same characters over and over and use strategies that are incredibly hard to overcome. And me and my friends used to talk about how to beat those strategies, so we'd keep learning and getting better. If the other person can't or doesn't talk or help, you're just stuck in a loop of getting your ass beat.

Fighting games are just sooo hard to bridge the gap between casual and sweaty players.
I had a few thousand hours on umvc3. I loved it. Even with all the time I spent playing I was still not at that upper echelon of players.
I don't get into them much anymore because like the other guy said, it's also a pretty boring genre if you don't have friends and just play against muted randoms online who bop your ass because they spend 4 hours a day in the training lab. I spent alot of time like that in umvc3 because I really got into it back then.
Fighting games can also be really really meta heavy. If you don't play the s-tier meta characters you can struggle.
I still like watching some of the bigger fighting game tournies like Evo.

You don’t say? In.
I am Hoping for some unique new characters.
I am excited to see which will be returning characters, and which ones will sit this one out (even though any could return in DLC)
And I am also interested in a likely story mode and where it goes.
And maybe some cool celebrity characters. They’ve given us Freddy Kruger, Kratos, Ridley, and I think Jason or Leatherface too. Maybe go with Brock Lesnar put him in mortal kombat. Srs

I don't know what happened to me and fighting games ... I loved fighting games as a kid but now that I'm older I think they're just meh, but that's also because the skill level is insane on multiplayer, feels like such a huge gap between casual noob saibots like me and the sweaters on the line.
Doesn't feel like there's much incentive for single player stuff either since most of these games are just trying to appeal to the e-sports crew. That said, I still enjoy playing them offline vs against friends / family because we're all nooblords and button mashers just avin a laff on the couch.

Mortal Kombat has been an Injustice re-skin (and vise versa) for years. There is no strategy in it anymore.
I'd rather they remade their original Mortal Kombat games but they've monetized the chit out of their later games so I doubt they would feel "fresh" again.
BlazBlu & Guilty Gear crew, occasionally a King of Fighters crew depending on the year

2) How did they monetize their later games? Apart from new character DLC, everything else was unlockable in Mkx. MK11 had skins you could buy but those were unlockable the same way as ever too.

Likewise, I certainly have read and understand the genre's difficulty at retaining players and maintaining audiences outside of the hardcore people who dedicate themselves to them, so it will be somewhat interesting to see if that SF6 system helps in that regard. If someone's got people to play with, then that's cool, but playing fighting games with randoms is always torture to me.

There are probably way more people who'sideais exactly that sort of pick up and play fun they had as kids or can still have with Smash because of there isn't such a wide gap between skill floor and ceiling, but they just tap out when it hits them that they have to treat playing a game like training just to not get wiped. At least I kind of hope that is what their thinking is in that case and not that the cringe looking open world single player will be enough for people who just want to play casually against the CPU. I suppose a good analogy would be more casual modes in multiplayer shooters vs the try-hard ones - same game, but it's widening its audience even more. Probably not a serious problem for the big three fighting games, but I could see it hurting smaller ones that could use a population boost.
This is also bearing in mind just how great a price commitment fighting games have become when an entire character could be as much as a discounted older game or indie title. If someone already gets wasted in the base game, they're going to be extra hesitant to pay for a character in the same game promising the same thing. I don't follow pricing trendstooclosely, but I am curious if audience retention is part of why these character DLC are so expensive since fewer people will then be committed to paying for them.

Anyway, MK's focus on the single player side is why I'm definitely more intrigued than others.
