Anyone own a Steam Deck?
I was looking at their models and they seem pricey

There are some indie city builder & farming sims that I wanna play on Steam but don't want to be sitting in my computer room the entire time. Thought Steam Deck would be perfect for those.
If anyone owns one, how do you like it? How's battery life been? If you don't own one, y'all think they are over hyped? Don't want to pay $600 just to play Civ 6 while taking a chit

Just get the $400 one and a 512 sd card.
I use mine for the exact same purpose. SteamOS is great and really shows that we can move away from windows.
You can stream games from your PC too, which works great.

Yeah I got the 512, it's great but the new Asus handheld really hit back hard, as this was basically the GOAT unquestionably best deal high-end gaming handheld since it was introduced.
That said what Steam has managed to accomplish with it, as it's own platform basically, is incredible. It feels like it's probably going to be somewhere between a Switch and Windows handheld these days, like the capability is great but the Steam OS really makes it feel more like a console.

It's very easy to do, and I get my GamePass ultimate library on the go.
SteamOS is ok, I like the control remapping available, and have actually cleared some of my backlog I would have never gotten to sitting at a desk
Battery life depends on the game, a AAA banger like Elden Ring or Spider Man (lol @ponies) you'll get an hour, if you cap frame rate and reduce settings to lower you might get more. 40fps is a happy medium on handheld.
Playing 2d games or older 3d titles, your battery will range from 2-5 hours.
Get one !

Considering picking up the Asus, but I spend weeks/months at a time with no internet.
Xbox cloud is insanely good but it's pretty useless when I'm overseas.

I know things like Spotify last a month and video apps are a only a couple of weeks before needing to to go back online.

I have both steam os and windows on mine, it's fantastic.

Windows on a handheld is a lot more janky, compatibility and optimization issues can be common, and it's just generally not an OS that is meant for these gaming handhelds. I mean if you got it all figured out that's great, but I think the only people who would desire it on these handhelds are people who have more technical knowledge and demands. I can see it being really popular among the high-end emulation crowd through.
