Musk says get back to your cagie, WFH wagie!

Elon Musk says the ‘laptop class’ needs to ‘get off their moral high horse’ when it comes to remote work

https://fortune.com/2023/05/17/elon-...er-unfair/amp/

"Musk argued that professional workers were being unfair in asking to work from home while factory and service workers still had to work in person."

A "man of the working class" telling the slightly higher working class to get back into the office and off your ass.

Elon's been putting in that work for Noseberg lately. Not bad for **** eh? Oy vey!

Kind of agree with him on this. If your job can be done entirely from home, how long do you have before AI or ****** replaces you for 1/5 the cost?

Who cares if it's fair or not.

If you put in time to get skills and education that can put you in the position to work from home that isn't anyone's business except yours and your employer.

He's pitting wagies against each other. "But you have to do x in person."

And?
The closer we approach the uncertainty of life's ending the more we wish to trade all of the things we have acquired in exchange for all of the things we have lost: wealth for youth, knowledge for fresh curiosity, resignation for hope. We'd trade our wisdom for new experiences, but it is wisdom that will teach us that at the end of the road the only new experience is death.

"People should get off their goddamn moral high horse with the work-from-home bull****,” he said. “They’re asking everyone else to not work from home while they do.”

LMAO. A billionaire just said the plebs need to get off their high horse. 4d jew chess moves from the world's richest African American... what a world.

This. I've always wondered how people think the WFH thing can be sustainable on a mass scale when there are endless millions upon millions of ****** and ****** who would love to steal their remote jobs for a fraction of the wages/compensation.

This has been true since forever though. Even if these people go back in, they're doing exactly the same work.

Well the govnt could regulate American corporations from hiring people in other countries to replace us. Oh ya, I forgot. It's a free market for the employer, not the employee.

I was a little jelly of WFH crew, but lmao how as soon as us plebs start to benefit from the tech revolution, the ruling class put us back in our cages, literally.

Easy to tell people to go back to work when the only work you're doing is figuring out how to spend your Billions. I give him credit for building his empire. But hard to take him seriously when it doesn't apply to him. A billionaire who rises from the ranks of those he oversees will forever have more respect and authority to govern those below him than someone who spent their life stepping on people to amass that wealth and position.

I haven't even bothered to go back into the office at all, not once

Nobody says anything...why? Because I get the work done and nobody can do what I do

WFH, being a digital nomad is the only escape from the 9-5

It's literally exactly the same work whether its being done from home or in person. The difference is that WFH means you get to skip the commute (easily saving most people 3-5 hours of UNPAID time a week and gas $$), you can wear what you want, you don't have to put on a fake persona all day with coworkers you don't give a chit about and when you're done with your work for the day you don't have to go through an elaborate, pointless act to seem like you're being productive with the last couple of hours of the day.

I've always been able to efficiently streamline my work to get it done faster than required and all it led to was punishment by being given more bullchit work just because 'if you have time to lean you have time to clean' mentality middle managers without any additional compensation. As a result I'd just purposefully do everything slower to stretch it out over the day. That's all time wasted that I could have been using for my own self-care at home.

Everybody knows that most people in an 8 hour day are productive for like 3-5 hours maximum. If the work is getting done there is literally 0 point keeping people around for another 3 hours just because you're an extrovert who can't handle not having people to talk to during that day.

Depends on the industry. I doubt they will ever be able to get rid of remote completely because it will be used as a compensation scheme by smart business owners. Many people would gladly take a 10-20% pay cut if it meant being able to WFH. As a business owner you'd have to be a phucking moron to not realise you'd be getting basically the same productivity for a significant discount. Being able to offer WFH would also make the job competitive and bring in higher skill talent.

Most likely a lot of the 100% WFH jobs will become hybrid 2 days in 3 days at home which is probably best for most people. It also cuts down on sickness absence as a lot of people will just WFH when they're sick instead of taking the day off

This assumes that employers are solely concerned with economic output and nothing else.

What Musk and others are implying here, is that MOGGING wagies is very important to business owners as well. They want you to grovel in person, to feel their authority, to have to smile and beg for their approval every day of your pathetic rat race life. Which makes sense when you think about logically, right? Why would you ever be a billionaire and still work every day unless you got off on the power?

Big "if". There's always people who abuse wfh.

Also because incidental contact and "water cooler" conversations build morale/culture/relationships. i.e. it's good for networking. it's good for mentorship. It makes people a part of the "community".

I've done wfh and I've done working in the office. Working in the office does make a difference. Friendships, relationships and the like

Plenty of businesses that aren't run by psychopaths.

I think the proof is in the pudding, meaning that they haven'et outdourced vital jobs because it isn't reasonable to do so.

Do you want potential proprietary code (or other product), competative projects, financials and budget oversight, or other sorts of sensitive information stored on some Pajeet's laptop in New Delhi or New York?

Taking advantage of wfh it is a legit argument. Trying to evoke some moral outrage about what's "fair" between different sectors of the economy is lame and manipulative.

Elon already has more money than he would ever need but still works non stop, sleeps on the floor of his factories, etc

Can say a lot of things about him but his work drive is insane and he sees all this for what it is: “the economy” is the process of advancing humanity/society and $$$ is merely a unit of exchange facilitating trade in pursuit of that. The ultimate goal right now should be population of another planet largely to mitigate the risks associated with our civilization inhabiting only one planet.

Next step is to move outside our solar system to mitigate the risks associated with being tied to one star.

Lol srsly. What a retarded argument by him. Just because someone else has to work in person doesn’t mean I should. I’m not going to do it because someone thinks it’s unfair. Grow up.

lol bro we aren't ever leaving this planet. It is 99.9% certain that humanity will be extinct within the next 100-500 years, at most.

The idea of terraforming another planet is thousands of years away, even just to get there.

There is no reason for executives to want people to WFO other than to feel like their jobs are worth something

https://www.apollotechnical.com/work...ty-statistics/

Several studies over the past few months show productivity while working remotely from home is better than working in an office setting. On average, those who work from home spend 10 minutes less a day being unproductive, work one more day a week, and are 47% more productive.

A study by Standford of 16,000 workers over 9 months found that working from home increase productivity by 13%. This increase in performance was due to more calls per minute attributed to a quieter more convenient working environment and working more minutes per shift because of fewer breaks and sick days.

In this same study workers also reported improved work satisfaction, and attrition rates were cut by 50%.

Working Remotely Can Increase Productivity up to 77%
77% of those who work remotely at least a few times per month show increased productivity, with 30% doing more work in less time and 24% doing more work in the same period of time according to a survey by ConnectSolutions.
