Should I buy/try the new zelda

Loved Zeldas growing up, played pretty much all of them from A Link to the Past until twilight princess, then stopped playing nintendo.
Bought a switch last year and played BOTW, and wasn't into it, honestly spent way more time on the switch playing the N64 games.
Is it more like BOTW or older zeldas?

It's very similar to BOTW and even uses much of the same map so if you didn't like that it's unlikely you'll enjoy this.

If you're a fan of BotW that played the game a lot, this is basically essential, but IMO it sorta feels like it could have been an expansion to that game.

It's BotW 1.5. I didn't like BotW either and I quit this one after two of the temples. Just not my cup of tea.

It's definitely a good game though, I just prefer other Zelda's more.

BS

An expansion is like GTA 4 lost and the damned, 4-5 hours of new missions and a short new story.

This is a 100+ hour game dude.

I didn't like BotW but I did finish it with all shrines and divine beasts

was hoping TotK to be different so got it with high hopes but I absolutely don't like it, the chit they added (like the ultrahand building shtick) even makes it worse imo lmfao

thinking about shelving it and not sure I'll ever revisit it

hoping they'll leave this formula for the next instalment but I'm afraid "OG Zelda" is done for, shame

tldr:

Since when have expansions been limited to 4-5 hour experiences? WTF are you talking about?

dying light 1. If you did everything and explored everything you could do 100 hours ez.

Expansion was $20 or $40, can't remember for sure, included:
-new campaign/story
-entire new map that was pretty big compared to the original map with its own theme (farm vs city in the original)
-new skills
-new weapons
-entirely new driving mechanic
-buggies to drive with their own leveling system

And the entire game had regular content updates with weapons/skins/community events throughout it's entire lifespan and even a few months after dying light 2 released.

How long is Dying Light: The Following DLC? When focusing on the main objectives, Dying Light: The Following DLC is about 9 Hours in length. If you're a gamer that strives to see all aspects of the game, you are likely to spend around 20 Hours to obtain 100% completion

How long is Tears of the Kingdom: This game is a behemoth that demands your time. The main story takes about 51 hours to complete, IGN estimates. And if you're a completionist, get ready to devote well over 100 hours to finish all the side quests and extras.

People with under 5 hours into it calling it an expansion have not put in enough time to have an opinion.

People with over 5 hours into it calling it an expansion are legit retarded.

Facts.

Best played on PC with mods honestly.

I'm still getting bored by it though. The depths are chit, and the sky portion is minimal after the tutorial. I'll probably do the last two temples/divine beasts and call it a day.

If you didn't like BOTW, don't buy this. It's BOTW with more story cutscenes, better powers, and 2.5 times the map.

hard to explain but I felt like I just HAD to finish it, got it on release day but shelved it after 10 hours or so since I didn't really like it

after a couple of years however I just felt obliged to complete it for some reason, found it hard to "let go" of my favorite series I guess and just couldn't believe it got critical acclaim yet I didn't like it (turns out it IS possible lol)

used a guide to see the locations of the shrines though, didn't went out to search for them all

for TotK however I can't be bothered anymore tbh, guess I'll shelve it and never go back

I just hope for the next instalment they'll try to fill the "handheld Zelda" void with a 2D like line next to the chitty open world series that I absolute despise now, Links Awakening remake is the best Zelda in ages lol (GB version is also in my Zelda top-3 with OoT and WW so maybe I'm biased)

I guess i kinda get it. I've never gone hard on a game i didn't like, but I've played the hell out of games that were just ok. I'm sure the 2d zeldas aren't done. At least that's what I think deep down. Feels like you can never truly get rid of 2d zelda.

I loved the Links awakening remake on Switch too bro.

Sad you can't find love for openworld Zelda, the true Zelda experience as its creator wanted it to be.

he says a lot I can relate to in regards to what was grinding my gears in BotW

but what really make me quit TotK was the ultrahand, fuk that chit just pissed me off, huge timesink gimmick

I was hoping to see my gripes with BotW somewhat resolved but instead I got a fukking massive red flag early on lmfao

just not for me, I hope you brahs enjoy the game but I just LOL HARD at all the 10/10 perfect game chit I hear and read

I get what you are saying bro, BOTW was dissapointing to me when it first came out, I avoided it for a few years because an open world zelda game didn't interest me, and even the first time I played it I didn't really love it.

Over time it's grown on me a lot, I replayed it recently and just by knowing how to be efficient from the very beginning made a big difference to me.

Same way with Totk, not having to go through the learning curve improved it a hell of a lot.

I do still miss old school zelda though, I'm sure they will keep it alive, Nintendo likes to do 2 different types of Zelda at the same time, I don't expect that to change

If you never played the Zelda games this is a skippable experience, only the zelda nerds cream their pants at the thought of zelda since thats all they had in their childhood when they were deprived of everything
