Used the Misc Logic about the Pink Tax on a Feminist IRL

Rented a house for the weekend with a few other friends. A few couples, like 8 people total.

One of my more conservative friends is married to a liberal. They constantly argue over whatever is in the news, it’s hilarious.

So the liberal has this special sunscreen she uses that comes in a pink bottle.

So I said to her “I bet that bottle was pretty expensive, you know with the Pink Tax and all.”

And her husband says “wtf is a pink tax?”

So she explains the whole thing and I say: “I bet you I can disprove the Pink Tax to you in 2 questions, and if I do you have to grab me a drink, if I don’t have to grab you one.” She agreed

So I used the Misc Thread from the other day and asked her question 1: “If the boy and girl version are the same thing, why don’t you just buy the blue version and save yourself the money?”

She got really excited as she thought she stumped me, and said: “I do! Razors, deodorant, etc I never buy the female ones because the male ones are the same thing but cheaper”

So I said: “great! See there’s no such thing a pink tax, you pay the same price we do for the same product.”

She said “well that’s not exactly true, this pink sunscreen was much more expensive because unlike the regular one this one doesn’t have all the chemicals, and this one has a broader spectrum for better sun protection … blah blah blah so I can’t just buy the regular sunscreen, I have to get this one.”

So I say “So it’s more expensive because it’s a much better product? I guess there is no pink tax. See just two questions and it’s debunked!”

Her husband went nuts and started dying laughing. I think it caused a big fight between them later LOL.

She wouldn’t bring me my beer and my GF just grabbed one for me.

It was really fun bringing a misc thread into real life. Highly recommend.

Well, men's boots are made better, and if you try to buy them, the heels slip. So maybe the solution is to just not be female, and also, don't enjoy feminine colors, fragrances etc.
