Fk them: Is it stupid of me to quit because my vacation was denied?

-Vacation is September 4th thinking of quiting September 3rd.

-60k/yr job

-Also work a casual job

-Put in vacation of February of this year.

-Sited staffing problems as reason since another one of my coworkers is going at the same time. They apparently put theirs in first.

- I will be jobless after vacation probably spending around 16k (going to Vegas).

What do we think boyos?

If you do it’ll likely be either one of the best or most stupid decisions you have made so far.

Probably best of not being a wage slave in the long term though. Not if you don’t like the whole vacation booking thing and having to ask permission for things you want to do.

NGL at age 28 and making only $60k/yr, I'd just start looking for another job that pays more. Keep working in the meantime so you can use your current pay as leverage for negotiating salary. In some areas that's poverty level. In other areas, it's not as solid as it used to be. Make it a goal to find one before September, and see if you can get a couple weeks off between jobs after you put in the 2 weeks notice, so you can still have your vacation.

Your OP says vague things, but if you think $16k is enough of an emergency fund to go jobless and hope for the best, I'd say you've either got high confidence in a quick turn-around for finding something else, or you haven't truly thought this through.

EDIT:

Meant to add that I wanted off for a week or 2 in June, but too many people on my team are already taking off, plus some layoffs happened short notice - I'd almost feel guilty about doing it in general at this point. Aiming for maybe late July or early August at this point, for such a thing.

yeah but there are better ways to handle a situation like that than just up and quitting before spending your life savings on a vacation trip with no backup plan lined up.

I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy, but I have literally never been in a position to prioritize vacation trips to the point where I could afford to just quit my job if they didn't like it.

Not to sound rude either OP, but you might wanna consider asking further in advance. 6 months might sound pretty far out, but there are jobs that take vacation requests up to an entire damn year out. Food for thought.

If they have two people wanting the same week off, that is their problem, not yours. They need to have enough people working there.

If this was me, I would put in my two weeks at the end of August, but not take the trip to Vegas and live off that money instead while I look for another job.
