Amazed how Trump lickers didn't work out long ago he just says whatever he thinks is popular at the time with people that support him. He is a lifelong Democrat that knew he had no chance of being elected by them, so saw a large conspiracy, gun nut base he could tap into as a Republican so he could become president & feed his ego more than ever before.

He spent decades supporting gun restrictions & a ban on assault weapons, then he suddenly is running & is in league with the NRA. Promised he was going to build a wall to control illegals(why many if not most voted for him) & then didn't. Here he is supporting people using whatever bathroom they want & then a year or less later is in power & writing mandates ensuring they can't.

The primary job/point of a candidate is to get elected.

So their behavior reflects that.

This applies to literally every politician.

It makes sense, there are certain things you have to do to “win”, so you do those things.

Appeasing the crowd is the point.

Why would they not do that?

It is okay according to the rules of the game they play. So why would they put that unnecessary limiting factor on themselves to not do it?

Every. One.

that's not new - he said he was fine with trans people using whatever bathroom they felt appropriate when campaigning in 2016 - it was a tweet directly to Jenner I think.
