There have been quite a number of peer reviewed human studies that now confirm something reasonable people have always known just based on logic and common sense: intermittent fasting, low sugar low carbohydrate diet, supplementing with specific vitamins and numerous other herbs, including certain healthy fats in the diet, increasing the quality of the food from processed garbage to organic, all of these things actually reduce symptoms and improve quality of life of people with autism.

IDK about a cure OP. There are a lot of things that tend to ride along with autism which can be treated. And it isn't like autism presents the same way across the board; there is a ton of variability.

Unless you mean just being socially retarded and not clinically diagnosed. I'm sure that can be remedied given sufficient intelligence, awareness, and commitment.

"Cure" suggests disease. I'm not sure neurodiversity is a disease.

Neurodivergence isn't a disease, OP.

You tell me: What exactly is wrong with autism? If you mean being socially retarded, this is solved by gaining some social skills. I.E not being a chicken nugget gobbling chitkunt on the internet all day, and actually going out and enjoying some human interaction.

An easy way to learn this: In conversations, just get used to asking people more about themselves. Have them talk about themselves, show an interest in their interests, show to be a keen listener even if you don't really GAF. Just have them keep talking about themselves and use their name often, it's like music to their ears.

I did this when I was new to interacting with girls and really struggled to avoid a serial-killer vibe. It was so easy to build attraction and keep an organic and natural conversation flowing.
Back off, Warchild.

Seriously.

Yes. Autism is "cured" via intense, sustained, and vitriolic ridicule until the autist realizes that the only way to survive is to
1. deny that they are autistic
2. fake that they are normal.

intermittent fasting is just a way to get away with forgetting to feed your kids and then call it a 'healthy lifestyle'.

These aren't great studies. One is a case study of a single child, the other is 15 children with no control group.

Also, one of the main characteristics of people with Autism is difficulties/aversions with food and textures. I'm seriously skeptical that you could get people with ASD to adhere to a ketogenic diet. Sometimes getting children with ASD to eat anything at all but specific foods is difficult.

Reads the link where kids were helped by a keto diet, proceeds to state that kids will not eat a keto diet…

Misc is a special place.

Will you be actively looking to discredit the next 10 links I would post of peer reviewed literature? Isn’t it better to try instead of giving up?

Somehow I get the feeling if Pfizer came out with a drug for autism You would drop on your knees and suck Pfizer CEO cock, and suddenly claim that there is a cure.

So keto w/medium chain fatty acids?

It could help with some things. There is a high correlation of gut problems with autism and it fits if you think of autism as having a highly sensitive nervous system and that a heck of a lot of our nervous system is in our gut.

From the second link:
Substantial improvement (> 30% decrease ADOS-2 total score) was observed in six participants, moderate improvement (> 3 units) in two participants, and minor/no improvement in seven participants.
^^^
Not all people dx'd with autism have gut problems, but a lot do.

It's tough to say if the improvement is due specifically to the macros or if the same sort of improvement would be seen with less restrictive diets which account for higher sensitivity and gut bacteria. I know that I've read something along the way about certain food colorings being associate with poor behavior/mood in children. Our food has a lot of chemical crap in it.

No big asssss psychiatric evals, no monthly psych trips, no daily mind/mood altering medications, or any of that bs. Yeah it was happening to a degree (especially with ADHD in the 90's/early 2000's), but it was only a fraction of the problem it has ballooned into since. Worst of all is that people are stupid af and readily lap it up as fact at face value without ever questioning it.

The delicious irony in a thread about autism. Exhibit A and B, ladies and gentleman.

But on the increased rates of autism. I'm not so sure. I think there is increaseddiagnosisof autism, but there's more diagnosis of cancer, IBD, Alzheimer's etc. We just know a lot more about them now and have more accurate diagnostic criteria and biomarkers.

Like, now we have a less sexist understanding of autism and know it affects girls as well as boys, and know how it tends to manifest in girls. We have a far better understanding of its existence along a spectrum, when it days of yore only extreme autism tended to be diagnosed.

Plus, more openess and acceptance that neurodivergence isn't actually a bad thing has led to more people coming forward and realizing they're on the spectrum and talking about it.
Back off, Warchild.

I'm open to age of the mother and our overgrown vaccine schedule and the increase in chemical pollutants as causative. The others might increase the expression of traits classified as autism, but I can't see them causing autism.

1. It is an increase on a per 100,000 basis, not just an increase in total numbers.

2. Yes, things tend to go in and out of fashion in the field of psychology and IMO the diagnosis process should be easy to access/not so expensive + also quantitative to the extent that is possible.

Doctors like to push pills as first choice of treatment because it doesn't require a lot of effort by the patient and so follow through is better, and because insurance will pay for a lot of pills vs. coaching and life support.

That said I believe that we did have under diagnosis for a very long time because the only neurodivergence which was recognized was mostly in males who showed extremes of outward behavior. Females are different and it is only recently that the female presentation of neurodivergence has received recognition.

I'm honestly a bit perplexed that medical imaging hasn't been used more given that some visible differences in how areas of the brain light up and the physical structures of the brain have been discovered.

ETA: Bodhy beat me to the punch on some of this.

They're just different. Everybody is different. Some people are weird, some people are extroverted, some are introverted. If we were all the same, it'd be a boring place.

I don't think I'd call it a "disease" or an "illness". It's just the way we are and we should embrace it. Imagine being a boring ass NPC normie.
