Any one else really interested in the Civil War?

For some reason the American civil war , or the "Second American Revolution" as its known by some in the South , has always interested me.

I think its from watching Ken Burns documentary The Civil War in high school/
The whole idea of brother vs brother who in a few generations their offspring will fight and die together under one flag on the beached of Omaha,

First use of the ironclads in Naval warfare

so many great movies and TV shows. Anyone remember Andersonville mini series on TNT

also how close it can get to another civil war 20-50 years from now with how things are going

Just realize it had little to do with slavery, and much more to do with what the Government told you what you could and could not own...like land. Try owning it now and miss a property tax payment..what is taught in the history books and movies is a far stretch from what actually was.

Ken Burns did also do a series about Mark Twain.

Buy the "uncensored" Twain books while you can.

Yes especially with the bushwhackers and how it led into the outlaws of the west. Quantrills raiders and the James gang. Great stuff.

I love touring the old battlefields. Antietam, Harpers Ferry, and Gettysburg are all within like an hour of each other.

I’m more of a ww2 buff, especially the Pacific theater. Dad and uncles served. Read “with the old breed”. It’s by one of the dudes portrayed in the hbo series “the pacific”. It’s brutal.

Seriously, I don’t know how every single one of those dudes didn’t off themselves or go on a murder rampage with in two months of returning home. Very different men back then.

I'm not super into any particular war, but I would like to learn the truth about our history instead of the propaganda that they tell us. For example the narrative is that the north fought to free the slaves, when in reality they fought to control the south. Lincoln is portrayed as a hero who freed the slaves because he cares about black people, when he was actually a tyrant who would rather kill the south than let them leave, and he wanted to deport all blacks to the Caribbean

I love how the war was fought by immigrants (almost 1 in 4 was an immigrant) and farmers, just plain-clothes laborers and peasants taking up arms across the countryside.

I’ve been to Antietam. Very cool place. I’m sure there are better battlefields to visit but that one stuck out.

Did a lot of history reports on Robert E. Lee, dude was cool as hell and even wasn't a fan of slavery despite fighting for the south, he just happened to be from Virginia so he fought for his home.
