None, if you want to be successful financially, any extra time and effort you have should go into developing your skill that you are (or will) using in your career. It will make you significantly more money to be better at your skill than some side hustle or second job.

Name one top athlete who is in the NDA and the NFL? Not a perfect analogy, but you get the point.

Entertainment is likely an exception. If you intend on being an entertainer, that is your "skill", so it makes sense to work multiple avenues there.

Outside of entertaining, you generally want to become a "master of one" to lead to a higher income at your primary job.

The only other exception would be somebody with an already established career, that they cannot advance in by adding some extra "study/practice" hours in outside of work hours.

Actually that's a terrible analogy. What superstar professional athlete isn't supplementing his income with sponsorships and side businesses. You think Michael Jordan's fortune comes from his basketball salary? LMAO

As a matter of fact, you prove my point by mentioning few athletes try to play two sports. In a way that's investing in the same job, which is being an athlete. They're different industries (aka sports) but the core function is still being an athlete. I wouldn't say that's a side job or hustle. Sponsorships and other side businesses unrelated to athletics is far more comparable and many of them do this and are extremely successful often times raking in more than their salaries give them being an athlete.

In my downtime I write books. I've been a two time Amazon bestseller in my niche and it makes me a decent amount per month for something I do in my spare time.

Alright yes, being a top famous athlete in a professional sport aside, and becoming Joe Rogan aside, my advice applies to most people.

Fame and endorsements certainly is an exception.
