Mom is dead and the world is a better place for it. Haven't spoken with my father in years.

Sorry to hear that OP

I tend to be annoyed with my parents occasionally but overall they are really good people and gave me a really good childhood.

The problem is that they are NPCs and it grinds my gears to see them like that. They are arrogant by not taking advice from others or having any critical thinking on their own actions which leads them to the same dead-end.
They thought me good manners as a kid but didn't teach me the essential stuff in life when I got older, even when I asked they were like ''meh, you won't understand now''.

Most boomer parents have their nose stuck up in their ass. Even the good ones are a bit too self-focused and careless at times.
Also quite dumb when you think about it, it is due to the limited information they had when they were young. They weren't like us to be raised with the internet.

Sucks OP, I had great parents.... they made me the man I am today.

My Mom telling me how proud she was of who I became, sht hit hard. Being told I was just like my Dad was the greatest compliment I ever got...

No. That's one of the most tragic and horrendous things in life. Really sorry to hear that, OP (srs). It absolutely blows my mind that people can go from holding their little smiling baby to subsequently actively and willingly abusing that little baby throughout its life.
