As I got older the more I started to realize the ONLY thing that matters are aesthetics (ignore avi, that was from like 8 years ago before I started TRT)
Literally no one truly gives a crap about how much you lift, especially females. Now I'm doing higher reps, much more machine work, no deadlifts, etc and look better than I ever did. I'm not as strong but literally no phucks were given. Plus the joints feel better

just started an 8 week program more hypertrophy focused after 2 years of 5x5 and heavy stuff, gotta say it feels great to actually feel the lifts again, if you get what I mean. I feel like im more efficiently using my time and energy now.

Left the gym I was at during the lockdowns and went with a simple home gym so kind of had to give up on heavy lifts. Plus I'm getting older so I'm more about looking and feeling good rather than PRs or maxing out on any lifts.

I differentiate between lifting heavy and lifting to hit PRs.
I put far less effort in now than I used to in terms of trying to hit new PRs on a regular basis, but I still lift 'heavy' (85+% of 1rm) on a regular basis.

Most semi-serious lifters are forced out of lifting heavy due to injuries. It takes waaaaaaayyyyy too much fkn energy to constantly fix yourself so you can keep increasing 1 rep maxes.

I've always lifted for aesthetics but used to put more stock in how much weight I was lifting. I'd rather stay a bit lower, get a great pump and reasonable growth, but keep my joints/tendons in good shape into old age.

But there isn't, the only thing you can accurately track is how heavy you can lift VS your weight on the scale.
That said, I do understand that some people are injury prone. Sucks to be you I guess.

any lifting is better than no lifting and lifting heavy when you get older can lead to injury thus not worth overdoing it

I've definitely aged out of heavy lifting. I usually lift between 10-20 reps depending on the exercise now, and I'm actually enjoying it more. Less injuries, better form, easier to add extra weight or reps without straining something etc.

I’m an ecto, so if I’m lifting heavy, I’m also lifting for aesthetics. I can also eat almost whatever I want from a kcal standpoint too, so the goal is basically, lift heavy and eat everything.

And there's two types of hypertrophy, myofibrillar, and sarcoplasmic, so depends on how you define muscle growth. Plus intensity probably matters most, not just rep ranges.
bullchit no one cares how much you lift, you look like a little btch if a female is lifting more than you. people will judge and make fun of you for pretty much anything. why not have a balance of looking good and being strong? I love being a small dude and outlifting bloatlords in the gym, its good motivation

idk, there's some big mother fukkers at my gym who squat like 4 plates and are lean AF.
I stopped caring about the numbers and more about form and reps. BRB squat 135 for reps of 20, heart-rate goes up like crazy and i start sweating bullets.

Im already looksmaxxed. Been lifting for 10 years and recently started to focus more on the base lifts which are deadlifts, squat and military press.
Really enjoying it so far and feels like I’m growing quickly again(think noobgains speed)

yeah most people are idiots... I agree looking good is better than being a fat fuk who can lift a chit ton, but why not do both?
I judge based on weight/reps/intensity, pretty sure if you do more than 12-15 reps that's for muscular endurance and not good for size.
